Other times, I get requests to buy products from my company. They don't say what they want, but do ask about credit card payments. I treat them as spam, but do wonder what they are trying to do.
yeah, i get them a few times a week, too..... that one was received yesterday...
Yes they are spam...
It is call phishing because they're fishing for info.
Do not give them any info!
It's been a long time since I've gotten a call wanting to buy surveying equipment or commercial-type maps. I just figured they looked in the wrong section of the phone book.
The ones that get me are the so-called police or fire organizations that call for donations and tell me how much I gave them last year, which was nothing. You hear a bunch of other people in the background doing the same thing.
I just got one the other day from a guy asking me if I'd seen the info he sent me about helping me with my PG&E gas bill. We don't even have gas service at the office.
Then the ones that say their representative will be in the area tomorrow and what time would be good for them to stop by for 5 minutes?
How about answering in a positive, cooperative tone "Yes, hang a minute", put them on hold, and phone the police or gas/phone company on another line? See if between you you can trap the scammers!
There is this guy that calls me once every year or so, talks fast and is worth listening to for a few if have the time. He wants to know what I have discounted for sale and if I need a few items to help do business.
He shares a few rumors and has answers to a few secrets. He then tries to sell pens with your personalized messages or company name on them.
Before he goes he shares a good joke and goes away until a year or so goes by.
I have received about 20 "this is your absolute last notification" phone calls recently explaining that my credit cards are in trouble. That might disturb many people, but, not me. I have zero credit cards.
