Anyone know of a program that I could use to change an 'East, North, height, description' csv file to: 'Description, East, North, height'?
Unusual format but that's what the client wants, SurvCE or Carlson xport won't do it.

I'm sure there's a way, in Excel; but I'm not an expert in Excel.
Maybe somebody who is, will chime in. Or just play around with a copy or dummy file, until you figure it out.

Carlson Survey can export to a user defined file (Points,Export,Set format to User Defined).?ÿ SurvPC can also do it (File,Import/Export,Export Ascii File, File type:User Defined, Coordinate Order:Custom).?ÿ I bet SurvCE has the same ability, probably just hiding from you.
Edit:?ÿ With Carlson you'll have to set the import format to Custom to bring in the file then export it in the desired format.?ÿ With Excel you could open the csv file, then simple rearrange the columns and save it as a csv again.?ÿ Use Notepad to check the results.
Thanks both. I'm doing just that, playing around with Excel, SurvCE and some freeware editors with an old file.
Easy in Excel...double click on the file, highlight the column to delete, right click and delete. Might want to save as another name, make sure you are saving as a csv text file.
or you could right click and open with notepad but it might take a while to delete the extra column manually.
If you want to move the column in excel, just click on the header (normally a letter - D would be in you example).?ÿ ?ÿIt should highlight the whole column.?ÿ ?ÿThen do a hover over the highlighed column and right click on the mouse and select cut.?ÿ ?ÿThen move over to where you want to put the column and click on the header (A in your example) and right click and select "Insert Copied Cells" and the column should go in front of the column A.?ÿ ?ÿHope that make sense.
I always just use Copy, Clear Contents, Paste, and Delete in Excel, just make sure you paste Values. Doesn't take any extra time.
Kind of amazing to me that a program like Excel doesn't have a simple way to re-order columns... if there is, I've never found it.

One more reason I like TBC; I can export any data, in any units (even mixing units if necessary), in any field order.
Stephen is quite right, it's there in SurvCE, under Export Ascii file, along side the 'Custom' co-ordinate order option there's a config button with up/down buttons to change the order of items. I should have looked harder. So, for SurvCE users at least, it can be done on the data collector and no need to use Excel.
