Really,
I guess I am having trouble trying to figure out what Tom was saying. Except the part where I am a fool for having asked for others opinions. Of course if I knew as much as you and Tom, I wouldn't have to ask for others opinions.
I'm not calling anyone a fool. Sorry if you took it as a personal affront. I'll stay out of any further discussion on this.

Reading comprehension certainly isn't your strong suit. No one called you a fool for asking other opinions. Tom didn't write anything about the tree cutters thinking price should be the only selection criteria.
I'll stay out too. There are obviously vastly different opinions on this subject and there's no sense in me getting in a mud slinging contest.
That sounds like a very good way to do it.
Hey Tommy Young
Tommy Young,s posts
Price matters to people and you are a fool if you think people are going to hire a surveyor with no regard to the price.
Wrong
Tom Adam,s posts
I agree. You're a fool
I wanted to have a tree cut down in my yard one year. I got several bids. They ranged from $200 to $1500. I certainly wanted to know what the difference was and why I should pay one guy that much more than the other. Was the expensive guy trying to rip me off? Was the bonded guy insured in case the tree crashed into my house? They all seemed to talk as though they were trustworthy.
You are arrogant and it wouldn’t hurt my feelings if you didn’t comment on my posts in the future.
Hey Tommy Young
Once again, where does anyone call you a fool for asking for someone's opinion?
Hey Tommy Young
He's clearly taking one line and blowing it out of proportion to take it as a personal insult. He is not going to read the line in context of the whole paragraph and consider the alternative point of view. A discussion with him will only lead to arguing over some minutiae and neither party will come out the wiser nor with any more respect for the other.
I'm sorry it came to this. I regret using the term "fool", but it wasn't directed at the person. I simply don't see an intellectual discussion with this guy as going anywhere. (No, I didn't just insult his intelligence).

Agreed. However, I stand by my original use of the word fool. No one completely disregards price in hiring a surveyor. To some parties, price is everything. To other parties, it is a secondary concern. It is even a concern to government entities that choose a surveyor based on qualifications. If the government entity and the selected surveyor cannot come to terms on the fee, the project will be cancelled, or a new surveyor will be selected.
Hey Tommy Young
I don't disagree with you. "Fool" can be appropriate if it is taken in context, but it can also be fodder for bickering and argumentation and avoiding the actual discussion. I regret using that term for that reason.
The point really is that if you don't think others look at the price you can lose jobs, while the others (or at least many of the others) are only looking out for themselves and trying not to be taken advantage of. Of course I use the analogy of the tree I had cut down, and that was used against me as well. That is why I don't see further conversation with this gentleman of any advantage. So using the word "fool" or not, I don't think your discussion will come to any useful end.
I'd pay a pretty penny to watch you use that statement to the State Board when they bust you for violating their ethic's rule. :-O 😀
Oh really?
How about you pony up some evidence that there are parties out there that will pay any price you demand for a survey, because that is the only way you can refute my point.
