What is the best way to clean connections such as the four pin connection/cable running my 5600? Is there a good chemical?
We used to use acetone a lot, I believe because it doesn't leave a residue. But for those pins good old alcohol is probably OK.
It depends on what needs to be cleaned off of them.
Acetone attacks some kinds of plastic, so I'd be cautious about using it.
A standard protective spray in the electronic industry for connectors is DeOxit.?ÿ Somewhat expensive, but seems to work well to protect things from developing oxidation or other corrosion.
LPS-1. Cleans, lubricates, displaces moisture, and will not harm plastic or paints.
RX3200 Electronic Wash,

Turn off all power and/or remove all batteries because it is highly combustible.
Save for most plastics.
Contact with eyes or ingested, call physican immediately.
Use soap and water if exposed to skin.
Electrical contact cleaner, available at radio shack, tv and appliance stores, maybe even wal mart, is an essential ingredient to all modern electrical connections.
No 2 ways about it...

Warren - for a decade or two I have used Strike Hold. It solved our early problems with cables. If you are going to be at the PLSC meeting in Denver this week I will bring you a bottle of it.
