This board is such a tremendous resource to the surveying profession across the globe. Far more education goes on here in a week than occurs on an alternative board in a year. They had their glory days, then abandoned us for the lure of fool's gold. Yet they refuse to fade away completely, thus discouraging a few from finding this fantastic alternative.
The recent story by the editor of a certain US survey magazine attempting to draw attention to their board is proof of how low they have fallen. Rather than citing numerous valuable threads, the focus was put on a single question and a single response. Maybe that was the only conversation worthy of recounting in recent weeks.
Fool's gold and the lust for money go hand in hand.
I had the same thought ...
when I read that,
Those of us who toil in media are forever challenged with “audience engagement.” In other words, “Can we talk? Please!”
In my opinion talking isn't necessarily the problem, but listening.
I'm not sure which board you are talking about exactly but one of them was so busy it reminded me of Homer's Webpage
I couldn't handle the "noise."

I saw that - Ist thought was- looks like they got a new bald guy-
then I read the article and my next thought was- I'd hate to have that job...
...chirping of crickets... I got this one wrong
Here I was thinking it would about a better way to keep those thick skinned cricket critters on a hook for fish bait. That's the best way to silence them - put a hook through the back of their noggin' and get yourself a nice small mouth or even a under sized pike.
I quit reading that other magazine long ago. It's like picking up SWMBO's Cosmo or my buddies Maxim. All ads and all things that do not pertain to much of any thing I read. Can't go wrong with cartoons like Peanuts, Garfield, and now a newer good one Pearls Before Swine. Brainless humor that will take up the valid time while you sit on your throne in the morning.
Thanks for the link.
Cheers,
Derek
