If you got the email, what do you think?
On a personal level, the letter's content was okay. I say that knowing that I didn't take the CFedS training to conduct surveys on Indian trust lands. That is because I am only licensed in Colorado.
I took the course and the CEs to have a better understanding of the "BLM process." Using that as a measure, the CFedS training and CE courses have met my expectations. I only wish there was an equivalent training program for mineral surveys.
@gene-kooper I don??t disagree at all on the trading aspect for an individual working in the PLSS. I don??t think it will help retention or recruiting new applicants. (I do disagree a little about the mineral survey statement though. I mean 600x1500- what??s so difficult about that?!??! ???? ???? ???? absolutely just kidding)
Another indicator of the low utility of a CFedS certification for generating revenue.?ÿ I have it, and I'm glad I got it only because it's an effective signaling device to others that you care about continuing education and the profession.?ÿ So it is indirectly useful in that way.?ÿ As far as its direct utility in securing work:?ÿ almost useless.
The reasoning given for the further dilution of any semblance of utility is this line:?ÿ "While it is desirable to continue to use CFedS for fee to trust transactions, other options are now available to tribes in an effort to expedite land transfers."
In other words, tribes are annoyed that things aren't fast and cheap enough if you use a CFedS.?ÿ Hey, what can I say, I like fast and cheap, too.?ÿ But the whole point of the program was to guard against this kind of thing...
@frozennorth We've gotten just over 2,100:1 return on training our two CFedS. We did have to work to get the jobs...
@frozennorth yes
@thebionicman Dang.?ÿ Can't argue with that.
I mean 600x1500- what??s so difficult about that?!??!

That made me LOL

I gave up my CFedS back in '18 when I had a run in with the BILS in the BIA Eastern Regional Office. The man created a 400' bust by his own stupidity, and then blamed me for low quality work. The Chief Cadastral Surveyor, who had been a CFedS instructor was also nothing to write home about.

I was working for the EBCI at the time and the CFedS got the tribe less than nothing. Eastern States has a rep for incompetence.
