I am running Carlson Survey 2008 on Windows 7. While in a drawing and I click on the layer properties manager I get a crash. Carlson's answer is to clean out the registry and reload the program. This works for a while but I believe when Windows 7 updates I get the crashes again and have to clean/reinstall.
I think I can solve the problem by disabling the auto update feature in Windows. I don't want to go that route.
Does anyone have any advice on how to solve this by disabling Windows to monitor my registry for Carlson? Or any other ideas on how to fix it?
Carlson support is normally stellar. In this case they are not being much help.
I don't run Carlson or Windows 7, but you might try installing Carlson to run in compatibility mode if you aren't already doing so. I do this with most programs written for previous versions of Windows and it seems to cut down on the number of unexplained issues.
Might not hurt to set your Carlson shortcuts to "Run as administrator" by default.
Right-click shortcut, Properties, Compatibility tab, Run as administrator.
I haven't had an opportunity to install earlier versions of Carlson Survey onto my Windows 7 platform but please realize that even Autodesk hasn't certified these older OEM engines on Windows 7 (as of press-time, only "most" AutoCAD 2010 and AutoCAD 2011 products have been certified to operate properly with Windows 7, as excerpted from http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/index?siteID=123112&id=10676494 ):
>Windows 7-Compatible Products
>Most Autodesk 2011 and 2010 products are compatible with the Microsoft® Windows® 7 operating system. See the list of 2011 and 2010 products that have been tested and are confirmed as working correctly on Microsoft® Windows® 7 operating system. Autodesk Product Support will provide its best effort to assist customers who have issues with products that have not been tested.
Compatibility-mode and Run as Administrator as suggested earlier are certainly valid ideas. Another solution would be to consider an upgrade to a current version of Carlson Survey which is based on the AutoCAD 2010 OEM engine.
