I am trying to convert a SurvCE 4.0 Rw5 file using the Star*Carlson converter in Star*Net 8.0. It apparently doesn't expect the "resection" field code and bombs out and returns this error:

"ERROR [Line: 24] Invalid field code.
--Resection:HI0.000,PN6954,N 2208541.5233,E 5799355.4263,EL0.0000,--RESECT"

Does anyone have a work around for revising the rw5 file so that it will be converted?

Thanks in advance.

Ed

I bought starnet and the carlson converter , based on the salesman at microsurvey saying it read carlson files and had terrible results .. Microsurvey did not seem interested in fixing it either , sold it ..

We have had the same issue. We got around it by performing a set collection after the resection.

That's a great idea.

MicroSurvey's tech support got back to me and came up with a work-around until they get it fixed:

You need to delete everything after the HI in the line that starts with "--RESECTION" like this:

ERROR [Line: 6310] Invalid field code.
--Resection:HI5.260,PN98,N 5436.8356,E 5262.0994,EL936.4675,--RESECTION 2-3

Workaround:

Edit line 6310 so it looks like:

--Resection:HI5.260

But it seems to not be meaning the reverse measurements.

I'll try your work-around.
Thanks,
Ed

My latest conversation with MicroSurvey indicates that you also need to edit out the extra "DE" line in the middle of the resection (in the .dat file).
