For some reason Carlson thinks i want to fit a curve between these shots but what I want is straight line segments. Any help welcomed.

I've never seen the + sign used in line coding. Could this possibly be the reason?

I have set the special code fro begin line as +1 and end line +2.....there must be a check box someplace that makes the software think I want to fit a curve......but i have not issued a curve command?????

I was not able to replicate the behavior. Would you be willing to send me your *.FLD file and the *.F2F values (Code Table Settings -- SaveAs) along with the four sets of points and their descriptions? The Carlson version number/build (Help -- About Carlson) might also be useful information.
