I have used Carlson for many years and I have never seen this problem before. Today I set up the instrument on two points I Gps'd earlier. Turned another point with robot then occupied it. Shot BS and checked .02 hz and .003v started to topo?ÿ then went to turn another point up with "set collection" now all of a sudden my backsight was getting.08 v, we then?ÿ checked all the heights and levels and shot again still 8 hundreths off. I look in rw5 and the coordinates were totally different from what was stored in crd file. Actually they were 465' away from correct coordinate to the wrong ones. Somehow it is flipping the azimuth. This is second time in a row this?ÿ has happened on a topo job. It also changed cords for my first GPS point that I never occupied but only backsighted.
Somehow the azimuth is flipping 180?ø
I have no clue how this is happening..
The coordinates are correct in my rw5 but wrong in the crd/points list.?

This is a known issue I have always had. When you setup on a known point and the BS derives an error, when you store your setup, it will adjust the occupied coordinate. I found this out on a highway job about 13-15 years ago (time flies)?ÿ Surprised it's still doing it.

That does not explain why it changed my occupied point halfway through the setup? And no DC I have ever used changed your occupied point when an error was shown on backsight, all it is doing is showing you the error from point to point. It still held the cords on your occupied point.?ÿ

Edit* I forgot to add it is roughly 465' between the coordinates. It is actually flipping my azimuth, it is exactly double my "correct" backsight distance.
We have narrowed it down to when we start using "set collection". Actually changed the backsight coordinates.

Check the Vertical Angles - probably you will find somewhere during set collection routine scope was flipped (270ish) for direct reading, not necessarily your fault, have seen SurvCE get confused during search and failing to return robot to F1. Watch out for this if trying version 6 - makes a real mess of turning F1/F2 angles.

We Gps two points. Sat on the two points with robot. When we went into "set collection" and took BS shot. It then changed the coordinates of the BS point.
Very strange thing that has never happened to me, on any other Carlson collector.
Happened to me two weeks ago, points in the middle of the set, exactly 180?ø off.?ÿ I created a polyline from the first to last point, mirrored that line and moved them 1 point at a time. Having done the work in the field I figured out a way to fix it in the office. If you were not in on both ends of the problem it would be hell to figure out a easy fix. Been using a older version of Carlson in an old Explorer for 6 months now since my SMI/HP 48 mysteriously disappeared.

Sounds like you should start your search for that HP 48 amongst those you know using Carlson.
