I'm looking at purchasing a Carlson BRx5 Base and Rover unit. Is anyone here familiar with these units? Thanks for the info.

Hey generusl,
The US Survey Supply guys had some on display at the PLSO conference in Salem, Oregon just this past week, and they were running some special deal. They're nice units, and have been out on the market for several years under the Hemisphere brand. Rugged enough for machine control, all constellations, UHF + GSM standard. Talked to a guy who bought a pair from them last fall and he's delighted, gets almost 2 miles RTK with the onboard radios. They said the electronic level bubble feature has some more function improvements coming that will make them faster to use...but they're pretty fast anyway. A great value, I think.

I picked up the S320 kit from Hemisphere directly last August. Operation is not as slick as the Trimble gear but if you are familiar with SurvCE it should be fine. Operation and configuration is not as user friendly as $$Trimble$$ but the capability is there if you have patience to learn.

I have not had an issue with the units so far. Selling features:

- dual standard batteries, hot swappable
- GSM and full spectrum 430-470 UHF
- Simple access to SIM slot
- Logging to SD card
- upright antenna adapter
- Digital level (although e-buble not in SurvCE)
- Logging, radio's, BT, base/rover can be enabled/disabled on receiver itself.

Just a note, the S320 is not L5 or Galileo capable. There is a free RINEX converter if you Opus/PPP.

It yould be a nice touch if they could add remote features such as power down, start-stop transmit etc.. but I believe this is a SurvCE limitation. There are many inquiry codes you can send to the reciever, you just have to dig to find out which are useful..
