Over a dozen monuments, some dating back to 1894, in a town, on a street approximately 900 feet long... None were recovered.
The town recently reconstructed the street and put in new concrete sidewalks there, built out to beyond the boundary.
While I am sure "Best Guess Utility Location Services" had been sure to paint all the water valves blue and other appropriate colorful marks there was no consideration of the boundary that marks the limit of their work.
Centered on existing travelled way.?ÿ It is what it is, unless you've found better evidence

We used to say the back of the sidewalk is the boundary in the city. It was good for reconnaissance and recovery.
There were several survey done on this short street, so looking for the rear corner marks will be our "Plan B" for now.
There were many of those locally before they finally wised up and begin locating property corners during the design phase. It's a real PITA. It shouldn't be happening in 2022.
Sounds about right. Personal property has no consideration.
Happens somewhere every day in this country, especially for monuments that fall in the center of the street or road.
