really, if you start taking pics of every one of kent's shiners you stumble across... well, there are ladies on instagram who couldn't keep up with how many photos that would be.

@flyin-solo

Marathon spectating but not by choice. My wife works in the area and we took some things to her office. Ended up strolling along Cesar Chavez while the marathon was happening.

@squirl

marathon morning in 2002 i was sitting on the porch outside at juan in a million, somewhere in the middle of a don juan/tecate/winston light breakfast, watching all the people running by.?ÿ and said, as plain as can be, "i'm doing that next year."

?ÿ

i didn't quit smoking that day, but it wasn't long after that.?ÿ and i did run it the next year.?ÿ and 7 or 8 times after that.?ÿ luckily, i've mostly recovered from that habit too...

Coincidentally I heard from our wayward pal, lapis quaesitor (translation from Latin: stone seeker)?ÿ this weekend.?ÿ Just to let everybody know; his uncanny stone-finding abilities are as sharp as ever.?ÿ Here is photographic evidence of his latest catch in Fisher Co., Tx.:

?ÿ

?ÿPlease note the tidy circular hole used to expose a 12" square limestone corner with very little lateral drift.?ÿ It's as if our buddy from the hill country had x-ray vision.?ÿ

PS - He placed the "x" on the stone himself.?ÿ I'm sure he couldn't resist the urge.?ÿ He did note the size of the x was also his standard error of 5 mm.?ÿ 😉

PSS - He also wished all to have a copy of the corresponding data that accompanies trav. pt. 4 at 2nd. & Chicon:

@paden-cash

hahahahahaha. re: the PDF- of course.?ÿ goes to show the extent to which he's worked- to be clear, the single residential lot survey represented on that map most certainly did not require that amount of field work, and he most certainly did not perform that much field work for that lot; it's just the background of what he'd done over time in that area.?ÿ btw- i've done a mountain of work over there too- and i can say that map certainly paints a rosier picture than what the typical practitioner would find ON THE GROUND as of today.?ÿ unless, of course, you had years/decades worth of underlying research and data at your whim...

?ÿ

also, the thought of kent lying prone in a field underneath some array of west texas windmills, chiseling an "X" into the top of a rock that sits a good foot and a half below grade....?ÿ lmao.

@flyin-solo

I'm surely not Kent's worst critic but I do rib him a lot.  It's a reciprocal thing.  We both agree neither of us have any business surveying on the other's side of the Rio Roxo.

I do admire Kent's attention to detail when it comes to preparing the drawing just for Lot 8.  I had to really stare at it for a bit to actually figure out what is was for.  I can only hope he charged by the hour.

I myself usually cringe a little when someone wants a copy of something I've done in a certain area. 😉

Earlier today Mrs. Cow was telling me about an online vocabulary test she had taken just to challenge herself.?ÿ When she said she had scored a perfect score I suggested she move up to a Third Grade vocabulary test.?ÿ That went over like a turd in a punch bowl.?ÿ She felt obligated to give me an example of one of the words on the list.?ÿ The word she named was "fastidious".?ÿ Then she gave the answer that was listed as being the correct answer.?ÿ Wow.?ÿ Their answer was incredibly wrong, yet she had guessed it.?ÿ I explained the true meaning of the word and clarified it by stating that in some dictionaries she would find a picture of me next to the term to make the definition clearer.?ÿ She went to an online dictionary and announced, "As usual, you are right and they were wrong."

The term "fastidious" was probably first coined by our good buddy from Austin.

Copied directly from a Google search for the term "fastidious".?ÿ One of the questions, and its answer, listed following the definition.

?ÿ

What do you call a person who is never satisfied?
Consider "insatiable" (if he can't find?ÿsatisfaction), "unappeasable" (if?ÿyou?ÿcan't ever make him?ÿhappy), or just good, old-fashioned "greedy" (or, if he's a child, the juvenile equivalent: a "spoiled brat"). All definitions from MacMillan: insatiable: always wanting more and?ÿnever?ÿfeeling?ÿsatisfied.Aug 28, 2014

The first definition in my old college dictionary is:?ÿ Fastitious: not easy to please, very critical

I always had a less general sense of the word, that such a person had to have everything neat and orderly, and done in a way that suited them.

Insatiable seems to imply that any amount is ever enough, but has less of a sense of being critical.

Unappeasable implies the person can't be happy with any result or what one can do for them, and has no sense of amount or orderliness.

"Young Sheldon" which supposedly documents the early years of Sheldon Cooper's (Big Bang Theory) life in Texas has surely employed our good buddy to assist with making certain it is an accurate account.?ÿ Life as an "odd duck" during the formative years can be traumatizing.?ÿ Some of us never fully recover. 😆 ?ÿ
