Me; "are these numbers you sent NAD27 or NAD83"?

Him; "no those are lat and longs not coordinates".

Oh boy! Five minutes later I just give up-I'll figure it out on the ground.

The problem is...most surveyors do not have enough experience/background to figure it out on the ground...NAD27? NAD83? Grid? Ground? Lats? Longs? WTF..grab the cell phone and E.T. calls home

B-)

Pablo

This time it's a driller. Pilot and core holes located with a handheld. Then sent to me in decimal minutes.

So I'm guessing now that it's 83. Maybe when we meet tomorrow I can get a look at the handheld and figure out the setting. Either way the first hole should tell.

Pablo again

Pablo, I get my party chief set up for us to meet the client so he can take him to a couple of the the sites; kind of show him around.

He gives me the look like why are we wasting time with a meeting?

"so he can show you around", I say.

He says, "you do know I staked the boundary for the property."

"yeah, I know, but he is going to lead you to the one on the high ridge, and a couple of other hard to get to ones."

"and you know I did a topo for that rough area. I just drove up the ridge from the west, he doesn't need to show me around. Give me his number and I'll call him."

Basically, slink back to your desk and I'll handle the field work.

This is one that the guy wanted to show him-how to get there from the northeast across the neighbors land. But the party chief said he drives up there from the west-easy access he says:

And the Party Chief said

Hey, Boss.
Take it easy.
Sometimes the directions are confusing out in the field.
Maybe it was East, not West, but I know we can get there, where ever it is....

Looks like access up the ridge running SSW might not be bad and probably there is an unimproved road up it today that wasn't there when the Quad was made or updated. What does Google show, may be a road up that long drainage that runs upstream from the North running Southerly then Easterly that could get you to the top? Wouldn't worry about those guys getting to the location, having done the preliminary surveying of the area, no wonder he gave you a strange look, many people get around isolated and rough country very well and that section of the map does not look that hard to get around in, maybe some round about's getting where you want to be but not really a problem.

Pablo again

From the east and south access is blocked by fences. The driller came in from the east and had to lay down 3 fence lines. He was going to show the party chief who gave me the eye roll.

He just rides up in line with the 3900 contour label from the NW. He said it wasn't even difficult that way. No new roads. The green on the quad is juniper. The contours are 20', not 40' like some in the area, which would really mean it's steep.

Anyway, the driller doesn't have to babysit today so he's happy.
