I have processed the cross-section sheets using C3D 2006 & 2011 versions. Had to use 2 versions because I am more familiar with v.2006 but needed additional functions from v.2011.

Anyway, the bloody part is over thanks to some of your suggestions regarding feature lines overlays.
Now my client wants to have the final CAD file exported to Microstation DGN formats.

I have been trying every version available in the office of Microstation - SE, J, 8 (trial) to import the dwg from C3D but the import fails to get in the cross-section data.

If you explode the CX sheets while in C3D some parts just disappear like the profile/cx lines. Has something to do with AECC objects.

Help!

We deal with the ACAD/MS thing alot.

The only thing I might suggest is to export a dxf file and then import it to MS.

good luck.

It seems like sometimes I can get things entered faster into the data collector than Civil Cad.

We have C3D 2013 and V8i. When we save the cad file down to 2010 version it seems to import fine into MS.

Have you tried the FILE > EXPORT command? I have found that to be the prefered method to exchange dwg formats. We use this for backing a dwg back to previous versions, and I see that under "Export Other formats" there is multi versions of dgn.

Tried every combination possible. The problem seems to be is that C3D hangs while doing the SAVE AS/Export functions. It takes forever and nothing is being written into the folder where I save the drawings.

Skip the save as.

Do you have aec object enabler installed?

You can try doing an aecexplode manually then Export to autocad.

I'd also avoid any C3D version under c3d2008, very buggy. Personally since we have 2013 I don't use less than 2010 because of the previous bugginess.

Finally got the right combination of export/imports etc. So for those who may have similar difficulties in the future, here is what I did.

1. Open in C3D 2011->Save As/Export to Autocad 2010
2. Open in any AutoCad 2010
a. Select all entities
b. Filter only those items that start with AECC_* from the Properties Tab
c. Explode

This part is the kicker, it took autocad almost 30 minutes to explode a 4mb file! I quit several times because I thought Autocad had hung. Then I forgot that I was exploding it in the background, left the office for several minutes, when I got back it was finished with the explode command.

3. Save again as Autocad v.2010
4. Open from Microstation J upwards. Version SE can't open v2010.
5. Wait a few minutes to import.

6. TA DA!!! everything is now in DGN format.
