this one was easy it would be nice if they all were like this:

a close up:

I miss working in a PLSS State. Cut my teeth on surveying in central Florida 1982-1993. Ran out a lot of sections down there. Been working in rual Pennsylvania for the past 20 years. Find an old stone at a corner ever once in awhile, but rarely. Most old deed calls are to a stake, post or point. My favorite is "Beginning at a post in the center line of the road" These are deeds written in the late 1800's. I spend hours sometimes researching old deeds trying to get things to fit together, usually never matches occupation on the ground (by a lot). Then I usually end up holding old fence line and wire embedded in old line trees any way...... Rant......... Enjoy your section corners!
Ha, nothing quit like finding the old marked stones, they really make your day:-)
Even easy ones like that one

Interesting, I did a lot of work in central and western Maryland before I became a "sell out fat cat big city surveyor" and we almost always found stones or stone piles called for in the 1800's.
The oldest I've found was a stone called for in a patent from 1680. Found a lot of these and these too.
Nice work. I have been out twice this week looking for stones, but only came up with some rusty pipes.
Mighty,
I'd appreciate it if you would leave a few stones for the rest of us to find! 😀
I just can't get enough of paid to play and every day being an Easter egg hunt.
