Hello,
Being solo, i often forget to make a note or remark when measuring my points on the terrain.
It seems to be handy to put a dashcam or sportscam (type gopro) on the measuring pole to film everything that is measured. With all the time-info already in the controller, checking some stuff in the adjoined movie looks to me to add some value to a job and avoid revisiting the site.
what are your remarks on this? Are there some off you who use this method already?
greetings,
Lieven
I had not really thought of that, but it is a fantastic idea. Would you want a wide angle cam? Would it lead to some sort of standard perimeter procedure, where you always moved the pole back, in such a way, that it would film you setting the actual corner, moving rocks, digging up stuff, and all?
It could also assist in the (O durned, I wish I had measured to the fence) situation?
Just remember, this would be a non scripted film. It could generate alot of film, with nothing happening, of importance.
It would be a neat tool, if the "film" was edited down, to the basic stuff. And, it could be dragged into court someday, even after you are gone, to try to figure out what you actually did!!
Remember "Tricky Dick Nixon" and the Water-gate tapes?
IF I did it, I'd want it to have real good resolution.
And, an easy way to store it all.

I use my smart phone. I can descibe a monument/corner in less than 30 seconds while taking a video and it gets stored on the cloud. Beats standing out in the road writing it down in a fieldbook and I can access it from my desk or laptop.
Depending on the type of job; I usually take a short video while I explain to myself what I did and why I did it.

THE CLOUD
This is a screen shot of what I see "on the cloud"....

This is only a small portion.
Sorry about the poor image, I'm kinda green at that...:-$
I hope you are having a great day, I know I am!

I just want to use it when i find a problem for example with a curb, i can quickly find the section of the movie taken using the timeframes and solve my problem.
I want to point the camera to the ground with a fisheye lens.
It's not my intention to use it for anything else.
taking pictures with a camera at hand is too much off a hassle when being in the field.
I've already found a camera from garmin (elite virb) which has an on-board gps. I think i'll check outsome more reviews and maybe purchase it. I think the cost of the camera will be gained back very quickly in the time less spend to return to the field.
greetings.
