It is a 200c, and I tried to run acreage in the field today. Around a curve.

It does NOT work. QUICK! Choke somebody!

Seriously, can any of you tell me HOW to do it?

Thanks!

Nate

The only way I can think of doing it would be to solve for the area using the chord as your boundary. Then solve for the area of the segment and add the two areas together. No clue if either can be done on a TDS ranger.

The directions say

522,28(475,r)521,526,525,522

What we have here is a tan between 522 and 28, which is the pc
then, 475 is the RP
521 is the pt
526,525,522, which is the POB

Now it does not work.

Any data collectors out there, that do cogo well?

use the calculator funstion of the TDS. Calc your arc segment =( Area of arc = ((?xPixR^2)/360) - Area to Chord ((R^2sin?)/2) )
I played with my collector for a while and couldn't figure out how to calc an area with a curve on it. If you had a HP48 with the TDS software you could do it.

I have kept using SMI v5 & v7 for hp48 because it is simple.

I also have TDS cogo 4.1 but it does not collect data. It is around because some past helpers were familiar with it.

All of these will cogo most anything well.

Same here! SMI is great for that area computation and easy to use. I've been using it since about 1989 and have it now on a Recon but this week switching to SMI on an Allegro.

In SMI, your problem would be simply enter the points in RPTS as:
522 "28 475 521" 526 525 522 and then hit area.

Sorry, can't help you with the Ranger problem. 🙁

Go to 'Edit Polylines'. Create a new one by imputing your points. After you close the polyline back to your beginning point, click edit, find the line you want to edit, click curve and follow the prompts. It will ask you if the curve turns to the left or right (based on the direction of travel around the polyline), and the length of the radius. Back out to the main menu, find 'Calculate Area', 'Tap Line', and it should work. It's been a few years since I've used a Ranger, but I think that's how I used to do it.

That was "Righter than rain" And, I finally got it.

I think I will try polylines, more often.

Stake Polyline etc.

Nate;

Here is a link to the Reference Guide for TDS Survey Pro (not the users manual) very detailed with lots of good stuff. I would wager that lots of surveyors don't use 1/10th of the features built into TDS. Lots of folks out there don't even know how to import a dxf file so they have a map with all of their points.

True dat, find myself learning something new with each update or new collector. I figured out just enough to get the old Ranger functional, then switched to a Recon, and am now using a Nomad from time to time. I learn something new in the Nomad, and then find out it has been there for years in the previous versions on previous collectors.

I AM Homer Simpson (in the tone of voice from the old Nike commercials)
