Or perhaps one of Leica's attempts at creating a controller. Either way, it's fascinating that this thing actually exists:
The geometry of this is bending my mind.?ÿ Is it the camera angle, or is this thing actually shaped like a 7??ÿ I wonder why they didn't make it symmetrical or T shaped?
?ÿ
Looks like the RCS-1000 that cane with my Wild green Leica TCA-1100 robot purchased in 1998. ?ÿStill in operation with Deaton Geotronics bluetooth and Ranger TDS data collector to this date. ?ÿOldest continuously operating survey robot still in regular use in Indiana, I like to claim.
I'm guessing some rocket scientist had the bright idea to shape it thusly so it fit in the carrying case for the TS.
My $0.02.
Looks super future progressive!

That's what I want to know - is that a design thing or an aesthetic thing? And is it even remotely ergonomic?
To me it looks late 80s-early 90s, but I could be wrong.
Ergonomics = the study of anything to reduce ergs required to perform whatever is to be performed?ÿ Has anyone ever spotted a dyne in its natural habitat?
-
a unit of work or energy, equal to the work done by a force of one dyne when its point of application moves one centimeter in the direction of action of the force.dyne/d®n/?ÿnounPHYSICS
-
a unit of force that, acting on a mass of one gram, increases its velocity by one centimeter per second every second along the direction that it acts.

What did I win???
?ÿ
??? ????ÿ
?ÿ
?ÿ
I'll further my guessing into it slipped into a belt loop like carpenter jeans or a tool belt for the double win.
?ÿ
?ÿ
Hell, I thought it was a magnifying glass.... ?????ÿ
Leica (WILD) is/was the innovator; not the imitator. In the early days of data collection and GPS; Leica was at the bleeding edge of that type of technology.?ÿ
Waaaay beyond their time.

It looks to me like a right-hander would be able to hold it in front of him* with less bending of the wrist than if it were shaped like a T.
*I use "him" because I presume a firm that disregards left-handers would be equally incapable of imagining that survey equipment might be operated by a woman.
@jitterboogie So you want us to believe they designed the carrying case 1st, then designed the data collector to fit the case? Even though the case is of a typical suitcase shape with inserts that can be molded to hold whatever shape one wants to put in the case. I don't think any prizes were won.
@lurker?ÿ
And like any good field survey person should say...
Prove me wrong....

??? ??? ??? ????ÿ

Probably also fit with some desk weenie designer idea of how they fit together on a pole and from the shape of the board allowed by the layout of the parts at the time....
Sometimes you go with the hunches....like when you're searching for pins and stones.... ?????ÿ
?ÿ
And I agree with the right hand user theory too, held in left, hunt and peck with dominant right man hands.
@jitterboogie ??pins and stones??pins and stones??sounds like a rap song.
