Thought I could mention that Trimble have just released a new data collector

This does not happen very often

The new TDC6 is basically an update for the TDC600

Still runs Access etc

The big plus is that it has a much faster processor

Is it an Android Tablet? Seems everyone is making the change from Windows to Android

Yes, it is Android - the form factor is more a phone than tablet

How big is the screen compared to the tdc600. About the same or larger or smaller.

It is a little larger - 6.3" 2160x1080 as compared to 6" 1920x1080

Nice. I wish they supported iPhones. If my family was not so invested in the darn iPhone I would love to have one as a back up to run from the office to grab some data when needed. I would pay for access to do that. I will have to demo one of these soon.

I'm a big supporter of the TDC600, if this is better and not much more expensive then it's a great DC.

Can you transfer an access license from a different data collector to this by chance.

Don't know about that - fortunately I'm well away from all the licensing and details- you would need to talk to your dealer.

Gotcha will be doing that for sure. I have an older tsc7 that’s been damaged still under warranty and functional just not in the best shape. Would rather not spend the money on repairs as it was not something warranty will repair. One of those someone didn’t take care of equipment things. Like driving off while it’s on a tailgate situations.

It's also a lot lighter, probably due to it's much smaller battery 5000 vs 8000mAh on the 600 but that is also listed as being hot swappable.

I use a Samsung A34 (cheapest model with IP rating they do!) as data collector and provided I turn off the auto screen brightness so it's not on max outside all the time I'm getting 14hrs+ running GNSS/robot. It has a 5000mAh battery so can see Trimble have downsized theirs.

Form is great for boundary and small topo/setout I do, much lighter on the pole. Wouldn't want to have to do setout from a large DWG, still a place for tablet size there. Easy to find quality mounts at reasonable prices too. Currently using a https://www.tackform.com/products/20-series-short-reach-motorcycle-phone-mount-enduro-phone-cradle?_pos=1&_sid=e3f6b517b&_ss=r

I've migrated from the 4400 RTK backpacks with wires everywhere carrying camcorder batteries, a radio, a L1L2 antenna on the pole all controlled by a yellow brick DC, from that mess to a rod pole with the R10/12 and the TDC600-no wires connecting anything.

Nite and day.

Of course, the extra satellites, faster processors are the big change, but the lightweight combination of the new receivers and a cell phone DC is an important improvement. I haven't noticed the TDC600 being slow, anything faster will be fine I guess but the 600 isn't creeping along. Its big drawback is the onscreen Keypad. If that's not to your liking then you need a bigger, heaver type of DC. A day with the TDC600 cured me of wanting that.

I would have to set up the codes in advance as my fat fingers and bad eyes could cause some head scratching for sure lol. But I might have to just switch from iPhone to android just for that light weight and having one device to keep up with.

You can use it as a phone, but I'm not going to, it's big for that purpose. Plus I want it in its field holder all the time.

Have you used a bluetooth keyboard with it in the field?
