It has been a while since I've seen an abbreviation or note I didn't recognize on a plat. With that said, I am currently puzzled over the meaning of "Sot" next to a square between Sections 34 and 35 in the below referenced GLO resurvey. Think any of you fine gents might be able to give me a clue as to what I am looking at?
Any help is greatly appreciated.

I think it says "Lot" rather than "Sot."
I thought maybe "Lot" also. The "S" in Sot doesn't look like the "S' in Sam's.
I've never seen anything of the sort that I can remember. If you zoom in really-really close, I thought it could almost say "Sch".
Almost looks like "Sob" in close. But there is a some distortion too.
Likely there is a bearing tree of some type. Maybe 'Spruce on bearing'. Just guessing here.
I'm pretty sure he is referring to a cow or horse lot that is near the house. Possibly even the equivalent of a garden spot. Not big enough to qualify as a field. The "L" is a little different from the L in Little Rock, but, not at all like any other capital S. Definitely is followed by o and t.
call me crazy, but
I'd bet the answer is found by reading the notes for the running of the line between S34 and S35
I see lot, too -
That's most probably a "t" on the end, and the first character closely resembles "L" elsewhere on the plat when it is the first letter of a word.

Notes?!?! We don't need no stinkin' notes.
It looks like the "S"...
in the word "Stables" up in Section 24.
I don't know what it means, but I suspect that being alongside a road is a clue.
It looks like the "S"...
I noticed that hardly any of the distances are equal. Shouldnt they all be the same? Would it have been a red flag to the surveyor back then if they weren't?
