Outstanding pics...not to sound too stupid, but how many new towers are going up?
Very cool pictures. Hard to believe it's coming up on ten years since.

:good: :good:
Very nice pics Scott, I installed the LGS CORS/RTK Reference Station for JW/CH accross the harbor at the Port Authority site that controls GNSS SpiderNet for your project, and most of the other LGS SmartNet CORS/RTK sites in NJ for JW. I had to pass on the install for the Holland Tunnel site, I started new GNSS guru position for HGPS in April.
I'm out in Scottsdale, AZ on a temp HGPS assignment May-June-July, back to CT in early August. I sure would love a site tour with U, Craig + JWhite in Aug/Sept. -BbB
I like the reflection of the steer skull in the 4th picture.
The original WTC plan included:
Six new skyscrapers (1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 7 WTC)
National September 11 Memorial & Museum at the World Trade Center
World Trade Center Transportation Hub
Retail Complex
Performing Arts Center
Tower 7 has been open and in use for over 5 years now. It is about 75% leased, and along with several major commercial tenants, includes architects, engineers and contractors offices for the rest of the complex.
Tower 1 is at 68 stories and rising. Tower 4 is at about 25 stories and rising. The rate is approximately one floor per week for each building. Tower 1 is reportedly already running over budget, as is the underground PATH station.
At this point, funding and tenants seem to be in short supply, so Towers 2 and 3 are not going to rise much more than a couple of stories above street level for the foreseeable future. Too much open space would drive prices down.
Tower 5, at the site of the Deutsche Bank building, is still a pit, and other than the subsurface work, it's not clear exactly what the Port Authority plans to do. Originally, JPMorganChase was going to build their headquarters there, but after they took over the remains of Bear Stearns, they have moved into that company's HQ building on Madison Avenue uptown.
As of now, the street level portion of the site will serve as a plaza for visitors entering the museum, the subsurface portion will be the Vehicular Security Center & Bus Parking Facility. It is possible that Tower 5 may not be built, at least not in the near future.
THANK YOU
This is good stuff!...thanks Scott...I'm due for a trip to NYC...been a while...think I was 10 years old the last time...
I remember boyhood awe looking up at the originals...
thanks for posting. I am planning on getting back there soon and will definitely visit. The reflecting pools give me goose bumps.
