Some photos from back in the day Alaska ....hard to believe the work we did over ground remotely with raw angle turning and distance shooting traverses... a fun camp and solid crew...they are all scattered to the wind now.,.. ... GPS ..you make my life so much easier ...

I remember an article in POB (I think) from more than a few years ago that had this barge mentioned in the article. Am I remembering correctly?

I don't know about the "fun" part but it's beautiful country to be sure. I refuse to survey when the temperature falls below 65F. Anything that requires more clothes than shorts and a tee shirt ain't gonna get surveyed by me. One of my crews maybe, but not me!

Have a great weekend! B-)

yep ...there is actually two barges in Alaska involved in Surveying projects and both were featured in the journals. This one was in POB magazine and the other was a two part series in Professional Surveyor magazine back when Marc Cheves ran the publication.

Ha...We called the barge the Queen Mary because the project manager's name was Mary.

If I had to set up a gun and chainsaw endless miles through the woods today, I probably would have drifted into another occupation. Brutal work. That particular summer was also known as the Bee year. There was an unusual high density of bee hives state wide for some reason. Getting stung was a daily occurrence and without fail you always dropped your chainsaw and took of running leaving it to sit there idling away on top of the hive.

Ivo

Was Ivo the one you had trained to fetch beer from the fridge on a swahili command?

People don't believe me when I tell them about that.

Ivo

Hiya Evan...yep...Ivo was the smartest dog I have ever known. She knew quite a few commands all in Swahili. Even made it on the Channel 2 evening news in Reno, Nevada fetching me a beer from the fridge. I sure miss her.
