This Point of Beginning should be a snap to locate. :
"Beginning at a point N3-1/2°E, 116 miles, 1140 varas from a stake set at the ferry north of the town of El Paso del Norte, on the road between said town and Santa Fe"
It's actually in that part of New Mexico that used to be in Texas until we traded it to the United States. Title to this tract of land was eventually a matter debated at some length by the US Congress.
The field notes of this survey are in Bexar 2nd Class File 000398 at the Texas GLO, BTW.
you've got high grade modern GPS, what's the problem?

Well, I think the idea is to actually locate the corner, not GIS it. As I recall, the tie to the POB was in error by a few miles.
The rest of the story is that Texas declined to issue a patent on this survey and eventually the US resurveyed the land (using an erroneous value for the vara) connected to some PLSS corner.
Sorry- ain't been one of my better days. Suppose a thread below just aggravated it a bit.
Kent..
We are all sitting on the edge of our chairs...waiting to see how big the 2" mesquite tree has grown to nowadays...;-)

One can pull up the USGLO field notes for the resurvey of that section as it was evenually patented by the United States. As I recall, they found very little evidence of the original survey way back then.
