There is supposed to be an object enabler, but I have never been able to get it to work correctly with Carlson 2008 Standalone with embedded AutoCAD.

You might try to see if one is available for download.

Good luck.

The problem is that most proxy objects are not there unless the supporting files are provided. Therefore nothing to explode.

........but he SEES a polyline that he needs to work with. Exploding it may very well give him something he can work with.

I don't know, but suspect that what he sees is not the proxy object.

Some things won't explode, for example alignments.

Dealt with one today. I have C3D 2012 but the version I received came from a newer version. Get a friend to dumb it down by export to ACAD from newest version. C3D has all of this "smart" data that just balls everything up. If anyone out there has a quick fix, please advise. The engineering firm said, we saved to xxxx version for you, but the export to ACAD worked this time.

A proxy object is an object from an external application or one of the vertical products like Civil3d. Core Vanilla AutoCAD knows how to draw lines, arcs, circles, etc. It does not know how to draw an AutoCAD Architecture wall, or a Civil grading line. Instead of omitting those objects, AutoCAD creates a Proxy for that object.

Proxy objects can be displayed in two ways. If I were to create a drawing in Civil3d and save it with the PROXYGRAPHICS variable turned off then a plain ACad user who opened that file would see a series of boxes outlining the extents of each object. If I was to save the same file with PROXYGRAPHICS turned on then you would see those objects pretty much as I do. They would act sort of like blocks but you could select and snap to them at least.

Another option is to have an Object Enabler, which is a small piece of code telling the basic ACad software how to use that hidden object data to display the objects properly. Recent versions of ACad come with the OE's built in - for older versions you can download them.
