I've used Xplorer2 for years. I like the split listing. Great alternative to WinExp.
JBS
I've used FreeCommander for some years now, and like it a lot. It's my default file manager, though I usually end up with 3 or 4 instances of Windows Explorer running by the end of the day anyway.
Yeah, ten four. Before my XP machine crashed, I was using power desk ($40). I think it was running instead of windows explorer even when I was doing a save as from other programs like Outlook, AutoCAD, etc...
This time I thought I would try a free proram first.
I tried the Classic Shell solution, but I think it is just a weak band aid & it does not help when I am doing the "save as" from other programs...
I don't know about any of the Windows explorer alternatives but I use the unzip program, 7 zip, that is shown at to top of the link you posted.
I'm sorry, but windows explorer is very good. The windows 7 version "feels" a little different than XP, but very robust nontheless. I wouldn't use any other navigation program to find my files. In fact, I'd be lost without it.
This has my vote for the best Windows program ever. Not free, but very reasonable ($46.). Easy to use, with a lot of power features, if you are so inclined. Never a charge for upgrades (we bought 5 copies in 1996 and have never been charged a nickel). Very fast technical support by the guy who actually wrote the program. It's shareware, so you can test drive it.

I agree :good:
Side Question
Once I install one of these options, how do I make IT the ONE that is used by my computer programs (like Outlook, etc) to do "save as" etc?

Total Commander is SO good.
Always liked Powerdesk
I've used PowerDesk since 1999 and it is way better than Windows Explorer for moving, copying, etc. your files. You can also print list any file list that you have on your computer or auxillary drives.
