I have talked to my computer dealer about getting a new laptop to take on the road and maybe be my main computer and was told that most of the higher end ones are only coming with Windows 8. I will be running AutoCad 2015 Civil 3D with Carlson and wanted to know if anyone was having trouble with Windows 8? I would prefer Windows 7 my self.

TIA

Earlier this year I loaded a demo of C3d 2015 on my Windows8.1 laptop. No problem, although I only used it briefly. Windows 8 is not bad software, it's just that it keeps trying to get you to paw the Fisher-Price buttons. Windows 10 will be along in a few months.

Windows 7 Pro can still be obtained, check DELL.

I have one Win8 machine that's about years old and has about two hours use.

I have a Windows 8.1 laptop, and I like it. Once you get to the desktop, is very similar to 7, although some things are arranged and organized a little different.

I tried a demo of Carlson 2015 on it, and had zero problems on it. I will probably be upgrading my CAD soon.

The only real problem I have run into with moving to the Windows 8 platform was my Topcon Tools usb key will not work on it. I am thinking that the usb key may have gone bad. I also had some problems getting my old Designjet650C installed, and was having to plot on my old laptop. I have since replaced that plotter due to other issues. Other than the Topcon Tools issues, I have not had any issues.

Having said that, I have only been in business 7-1/2 years, so I do not have any "legacy" software that might have problems.

Thanks.

I will be replacing all my old software so I don't think that will be a problem just as long as I can still transfer my Allegro CX with Carlson CE. Do you know if there is a replacement for ActiveSync? I have XP on my current laptop and was updating my Leica software and it told me my system was too old.

FYI I believe W8.1 pro has downgrade rights to 7. Also, I have been looking on EBAY and there are a LOT of new screaming machines to be found with W7 at very affordable prices. The only downside I see is that W7 may go the way of XP sooner than w8.1 and leave you vulnerable.
