Good morning,
I was wondering if someone has come across this problem. We recently re-installed the trimble transfer program "data transfer.ink". It was working fine earlier on the same computer but we cleaned the computer, re-installed the transfer program and now for some reason it won't download from the data collector to the computer, it's says "transfer failed" but it will send files from the computer to the data collector. Now this program is pretty small and i have the correct data collector, TSC3, file type, survey controller files and the correct file format, DC file v10.7. I don't see any other settings to change in order to get this to work correctly and have never had the problem on some of the other computers we have with the same data collector and software. Anyone have any suggestions??

that is not the data transfer program, just a link to it. You should go to the trimble web page and download the latest version of data transfer:

Trimble Data Transfer Utility

I don't know about that link, I just execute the program directly.

Hi John,
Yeah sorry, we do have the file directly on the computer. We've tried downloading directly from the trimble website as well as copying it off of another computer that it's working fine on....Both give us the same error...

Not sure, but I know you also need to have the program formerly known as ActiveSync (Windows Mobile Device Center) installed for that to work, and I'd be checking for settings there.

Did you upgrade any other Trimble software in the process? The transfer software is notorious for getting broken every time you upgrade some other piece of Trimble software. They install a new .dll or something and it throws the transfer software out of whack. When you contact them about the issue, they want you to pay them to get on support and this is in order to fix a problem that they created- or failed to program properly in the first place.

Sorry for my rant...I would try downgrading to some older versions of software until you get something that works.

Strange, it'll transfer csv files to and from the DC but not surveyor controller files...

+1

I could never figure out how they could sell you $30,000 to $40,000 worth of hardware and try and charge you to get a dinky free-bee data transfer program to work like it should. Trimble support is extremely lacking in my opinion. Nothing against the dealers.

Run Trimble Access Installation Manager, that should fix it.

Edit - That will fix it if it won't download because the software on the PC is older than the software in the TSC3. What version of Access are you running?

I don't bother with the transfer program anymore.

I download the receivers to the controller out in the field then copy all files onto a USB flash drive.

Each job has its own folder so I just copy the entire folder.

I haven't used Data Transfer in years, but I have TBC. Everyone gripes about paying for SW maintenance, but we keep SW warranties on our data collectors and TBC licenses and we NEVER have the problems with version incompatibility.

If for some reason you really feel the need to move jobs between incompatible versions just use Job XML (JXL), it's not version specific.

Go to this page, download Trimble Access Installation Manager (TAIM), install it, and run it.

One of the many nice things on the R10 is that it has an ftp server built in. I can connect to it over wifi and run an ftp client. Also if you plug a USB stick into it with the adapter cable it will auto copy all files onto the USB drive.
