A coworker of mine has not updated Trimble access since the 2021.10 version and we're having an issue getting some labels from a DXF to show up when they work fine on my tsc7 on 2022.10. Mine loads the latest updates and will allow me to install (and I never had any issues the previous couple times I updated). Any suggestions why his won't show up? It's on wifi, we tried rebooting and couldn't find any way to get it to refresh. Not even sure if the update will fix it but we need to try it first obviously. Thanks in advance.

What's the expiration date on your license? I don't have a controller in front of me but it show's the end of service date somewhere.

I would also suspect a maintenance agreement being out of date. The Installation Manager will look for the controller's license and grab the latest release that the controller is authorized for.

If you're sure the maintenance agreement is up to date, you could also just wipe out Access entirely (uninstall) and then reinstall to see if that clears the issue. I've had good luck with that on the rare occasion that a controller went haywire. (Be sure to copy your Projects folder to the desktop to back it up if you have local projects that you need to keep, just in case.)

As far as the DXF labels go, their "display DXF text" checkbox is probably turned off in their Map Settings. Less likely, there might possibly be an issue with the DXF itself, since DXF is open-source and many different software packages can create them. Depending on where it came from, more recent versions of Access may be able to handle DXFs that older ones could not.

His license expiry should be about 2 years after the currently installed access, at least mine was. But I will confirm. He is still running the version it shipped with when he got it just over 2 years ago.

Our office has had to do a lot of experimenting to get DXF's working at all for some of our jobs..this was like the 10th try and it worked on both of our tsc7's just it displays everything on mine, but not on his. I don't see any toggle for text (which is something we had in fieldgenius). All layers are turned on. Some text is showing just not the labels for the gridlines in said job.

Exit:found display DXF text on mine. I will go compare those settings on his.

Edit:it was turned off. DXF is working perfectly on his as well now. We will still have to work on getting updates to work but I doubt he'd going to care now. He's also a lot more patient than I when it comes to software glitches.

DXFs can do some weird things. They also don't support MTEXT, only DTEXT, for what it's worth. Most C3D users work with the former, so that might be an issue. I always have to remember to explode the text before I export to DXF.

We're currently using microsurvey in the office, and TBC to process. Our cad program is changing in the new year to whatever the company we merged with uses, so there will likely be another learning curve coming up.<div>

Edit: forgot to say thanks for the suggestions since we now have the DXF working because of one of them.

Update: One of our guys who works office and field told me his TSC7 is now having the same issue and the other guys, not loading the latest updates. His is the newest one and definitely still under maintenance agreement. Mine recently expired but still shows the last 2023 update. I'm just bringing this up in case anyone else runs into it or finds the solution.

There's a whole pile of licence information on Access's About form.

For the controller licences you may have to slide the box sideways to see the dates.

Your dealer is also able to check the device id against the database.

My best guess is something to do with the software maintenance expiry dates.

I was under the impression you could still update up to the maintenance expiry date. Mine expired April of this year but it still allows me to update to 2023.00. The oldest one would have expired later last year but is still running on 2021 access and won't load any newer updates.

I'll have to do some research in the manual, but I don't believe this is normal operation. First 2 pics are my DC and the third one is the newer one that is also not loading the latest updates.

Looking at those dates, I would expect Installation Manager to be offering Access 23.01 to both controllers.

Neither are valid for 23.10

Yes that is what I expected too. Expectations and reality seem to be 2 different things with Trimble. But I am used to it now at least. Lol.

I don't plan on doing any updates myself because I don't want to risk the Leica no longer working with access and I have read the changelogs and nothing pertains to the complaints I have given them, so I will live with the broken stuff for the remainder of my tsc7's life.

Mike,

It is possible that controller with 2023-04-24 might be just outdated.

Based on what I can see, I believe the dates for both 23.00 and 23.01 to be April 18.

The release notes say the public date is first of April.

I'm trying to get confirmation on exactly what date has been set.

Mike,

Access 23.00 and 23.01 release date is 4.1.2023 (apparently its always dated to the first of the month)- so you should be seeing it offered in Installation Manager.

Installation manger has is a log file - there is a link to it from the About page. If you would like me to take this any further I would need that file and your device serial number.

Thanks for the info Jim. That one that shows 04/27 of this year is mine and it is showing the update available. The problem DC's are the one that is newer than mine and older. The one guy is not big on messing around with the equipment and he has never updated it since it was delivered new. So it's on the 2021 version that it came with though the expiry is sometime later in 2022 I believe.

I'm not worried about it as the issue that prompted us to try to update was already solved with a tip I got on here about the map settings. If a reason comes up later that it needs to be updated, someone can figure it out or just pay Trimble to extend the maintenance expiry.

The other 2 are on semi recent versions anyway, so no big deal.

Is the OS up to date on the "bad" controller? Having an outdated version of windows can mess with the install process.

Forgot to mention that. He had recently done windows updates, just not access updates. We looked into the windows updates the other day and there was just some optional "quality update" which I think he did end up doing before trying again.

TA installation manager will always show the most recent version at the top, but your software warranty might have expired before the recent release came out. 2023.1 came out in October, so neither of your collectors have the ability to install it.

Well in the case of these ones something is wrong because they aren't showing the latest version. As far as I know nothing has been done about it yet, he's still running 2021 on the one and it's eligible for at least an update to 2022.something if it would show up.

I finally got to update ours today. Arghh what a head a he with one. Somehow he or another person that is a so called expert met him on a job Friday from out of state . Well he went to export a jxl file and no permissions. Somehow the projects folder’s got some permissions thing all denied for read write in windows and first they had hidden the folders. I was pulling my hair out this morning. Lol. Finally got everything figured out. I said never ever let that guy touch your equipment. Its not the first time he messed up some stuff. I hadn’t had all my coffee yet so i was a bit grumpy.
