When I have a line going through text I just pick the text and click the line using the trim command. What do I set to make the trimmed line trim further away from my text instead of having it trim exactly touching the text. Some kind of gap distance setting?

Phillip,

Instead of trimming the line, try "Text Mask". It allows you to maintain the correct line geometry and you can specify the gap. This works with Mtext and Mleaders in AutoCAD.

Or if you are using AutoCAD, you could use the break command and pick the points where you want the lines to stop from your text

Thanks John. I like that better than the trim.

azweig. The break command is too many steps. Thanks for the response anyway.

Try background mask. Click text, right click and you will find it in the popup menu near your cursor. This is similar to text mask but imo is simpler and more efficient.

TRIM and several other commands in Carlson do not repeat and do take too many clicks to do many times.

Every command on my older CAD program would repeat with a double click

I agree with using a masking method, so that the final product is read-able, but it doesn't harm the integrity of the linework on the electronic cad drawing.

This is for AutoCAD, I have never used Carlson. I guess it depends on how you use the TRIM command. The break command is actually one less clicks/enters then the BREAK command. If you use TRIM this way - TRIM,enter, enter, then pick the line you want to trim, it is the same number of clicks/enters as BREAK. Using TRIM this way or BREAK, you are left in the command to keep trimming and breaking away. And depending on how you set up your right-click properties, right clicking will repeat the last command.
