Anyone use the new release of Topsurv yet? 8.2.1 came out in December, and we're wondering if the Codes thing is any better now.
We tried 8.1, but had to go back to 7.5, because adding point descriptions by Codes was so cumbersome and slow to work with (and we couldn't add our command codes easily). Switching to Notes wasn't much better, since it then wouldn't automatically look for previously added descriptions (like 7.5 does). We run a lot of topo, so it makes a difference to us. There were some other speed issues and bugs that appear to be fixed now too (according to the release notes).
It sounds like the new version will allow for user defined command codes (in order to work with Civil 3D's codes, etc.), which would help us, since we run linework in C3D. At least we could then run Codes (even if they still make you run through several screens for each shot).
BTW - We are running the FC-2500 data collector.
Thanks,
Paul
I run 8.2.1 on a FC2500 but I'm just starting to tinker with the codes. I suggest installing the PC version to see if it will support the style of codes that you want to use. Make the leap to the DC when you're happy with what you see on the PC.
Watch out for a quirk in several of the offset routines. Offset routines that require multiple shots from the instrument, line-line-angle or line-line-offset for example, will work correctly on the first iteration. After the first point is stored, each shot for the next point causes the DC to store a new point. This results in points being stored using a combination of shots from the first and second points. When shooting a series of corners point 1 is good, points 2 & 3 are bad, point 4 is good, so on and so forth. The only work around I know of is to back out of the offset menu between shots, or keep careful notes.
I think the quirk exists in all versions of TopSurv 8.
