When staking a point via the Topcon Tesla with Magnet software, I see the "to/away from total station" and the "left/right", but can't get the "cut/fill" to display when staking a point for horiz. alignment AND grade. There must be something I'm not doing but...

Somewhere around version 8 of TopSurv they made it possible to choose what values to show on the stake-out screen. I've long since forgotten how to get to it, but it seems like there was something on the stake-out screen that you could select then make changes to the items shown.

When in the stake out screen, press stylus and hold on lower left of screen where currently see the left/right stakeout text. A menu of selectable items will pop up.

Also try long hold on center of screen, for more changes.

Thank you Lee!
How did you figure that out?? I looked through the manual (several times) and didn't see that. Is there another resource for the nuances of Magnet - besides Beerleg, which (as I've seen many times) ROCKS...

Yeah, I don't seem to get much help out of the manual either.

The long hold with a stylus is same as a right click on a mouse.

I just do a lot of exploring with the software and try to figure what it is does. Topcons Pocket3D software also has many hidden routines in the right click screen options.

While in staking mode, I have become accustomed to giving directional commands based on the rod man's 'left or right'...this Topcon Magnet software is reversed. Does anyone know how to get it to read direction in the traditional sense.

Thanks,

Rick

In TopSurv it's found under Configure, Survey, Click the ... to the right of Optical Config, Select My Robotic and click Edit, Work your way through the setup pages until you get to one with the heading Stake Parms 1, change the reference direction to get the behavior you want. Probably very similar under Magnet.

In Magnet Go to

1) Configure >Survey
2) Click on the button on Right with ... (3 dots in it)
3) Select your Configuration name for your TS, press Edit at bottom
4) Click on the "NEXT" button at bottom right seven (7) times, until you get to last page
5) Toggle switch for "Right/Left Offset:Rod to TS

Thanks Lee. That is how i was instructed by my sales rep, unfortunately...that hasn't worked either. I'm stumped. Even when I put it in manual mode and enter the shot, it is still from the instrument man's orientation.

Just to be clear and to eliminate it all together...should the box be checked or unchecked to have it set up to rod man's left/right?

Hopefully that made sense...?

Rick

Ok. So I switched the'screen orientation' setting to 'moving direction' from 'instrument reference'...right or wrong...that seemed to fix it.

I will play with it in the field and check back.

Rick,

Moving direction is NOT going to work for you. This direction from where you are, to the point you are staking. Often used in RTK layout.

I tested stake out in manual mode of Magnet v2.5.1, the switch does NOT work as designed. The switch I noted above should change the direction as you need it to. Log this problem with your dealer. There is a v2.6 release very soon. Maybe it is fixed already in next version.

•Right/Left Offset: Rod to TS: when selected, the right and left offsets are shown in the direction from Rod to TS.

You are correct Lee. That didn't work. At this point I hope it is instrument related. I have a 2004 Sokkia Set530R, I just bought a new Topcon ES103...I will start using it next week.

I will report back.

Rick

I still can't get the Left and Right thing ironed out.

Rick,

It's most likely been a bug in the software for awhile. I do recall seeing this many versions ago, even in TopSurv.

Most often I use a Tesla with Topcon GPT-9003 robot and Magnet Field 2.5.1. The left/right from Rod to TS is correct in Magnet when in Robot mode.

I also own a GPT-3003w. In TS mode the left/right is from the TS to Rod, not what you want.

I also own DL-502, Hiper Lites, Hiper XTs, and Hiper V's.

I work a lot with Admar Supply, NY Topcon Dealer, doing demos, and training on all the latest Topcon equipment.

In recent months I've worked with Magnet on:
ES-103 Total Station
OS-103 Total Station
PS-101 Robotic Total Station
MS05AX Robotic Total Station
LN-100 Robotic Layout Navigator
