@holy-cow Now where i come from we call the redneck ingenuity. I am sure it has a term in other places.?ÿ

after a ice storm in Mississippi one year we had been out all day fixing fences cutting pines up the snapped. Well it warmed up to about 60 degrees that day by noon. I was driving an old 2 wheel drive 73 ford longbed. The ground started thawing so fast we started spinning tires in the pasture. My uncle said son donƒ??t tear up the grass stop spinning tires. I said i canƒ??t help it. He said stop. He gets out hands me the t post drive and said go out in front of the truck and drive that post. I thought he had lost his mind. I did what i was told. He takes a small com along out from behind the seat and we hook it up. He said now just keep cranking on it. We did that off and on for a good 1000 feet. It was just enough pull to ease the truck out one section at a time to keep from messing his field up. I was like 12 years old. I was mad but now i look back and say that man taught me something I will never forget. And that little trick has saved me many times over the years. ?ÿNo winch but a 80$ cum along worked just fine. He was the type that never wanted any dirt showing anywhere on the farm. ?ÿHe kept a bag of seed in the truck and if dirt was showing. He would soread a little seed in it year around. Maybe cover it with a little straw or make me pick up a couple shovels full of manure and spread it around. He also had me every spring use a wheel barrel to fill up so he had enough manure for his garden. I would push that sucker from cow pie to cow pie. He wanted the fresh ones. ?ÿOne wheel barrel full at a time. As I got older and cleaned stalls for a horse farm. I would bring home a truck bed full of horse manure for him every spring. He still was a believer in cow pies fresh for every tomato plant. Said that manure keeps the tomato blight away. ?ÿIt works I reckon.?ÿ

@olemanriver?ÿ

I keep a come-along that my dad owned (before I was born) in my truck. Hopefully one day I'll get a bumper and winch for my truck but for now if I ever end up stuck hopefully that will save me.?ÿ

@350rocketmike it can lol. I have placed several trucks in low range gear and winched myself around and out of a pickle. I have been teaching my daughter lately how to ease through mud holes and keep momentum going so she doesnƒ??t get stuck. The truck i have is good because its so freaking long. It has 4x4 but to teach her I make her keep it in 2wheel drive. Today i got a gate and she made a mistake i have been waiting on. She stopped perfectly with back tires right in the mud hole. So when i got gate shut and climbed back in truck. I grinned and said donƒ??t spin tires ease out. I knew we would spin tires no way around it but she did good. Except later she like to took my door off on a gate post. I was in back seat jumped out to grab another gate and I forgot to close the door. And her little sister in the truck saying leave daddy leave him. I barely got her stopped before my door was ripped off. I told her it was my fault not closing the door but you have tow mirrors so ck them often. ?ÿYeah a good ole come along. Should be in everyones trunk of the car lol.

@cv?ÿ

That leads to this video.?ÿ Can you imagine the morons riding this for 15 minutes instead of walking down the steps??????ÿ 30 seconds or less will show the problem.

The first 45 seconds of this is great.

?ÿ

This reminds me of the ancient billhilly story from the Ozarks near Branson, MO.?ÿ It seems a billhilly took his first trip to Branson in his entire life and took along his wife and son.?ÿ When they checked into their hotel they were given a room on the first floor.?ÿ After taking their bags to their room, his wife decided she wanted to rest for a bit.?ÿ So, the man and the son walked back to the lobby to see what was what.?ÿ They saw a couple of fancy doors open up to a little room and a very unattractive woman walked into it just in time for the doors to close behind her.?ÿ A minute or so later the doors opened and a gorgeous woman walked out.?ÿ The man was amazed.?ÿ About that time the doors opened again and a crippled up old woman of about 90 hobbled into the little room and the doors closed.?ÿ A minute or so later the doors opened and a knockdead, young blonde came strutting out on her way to play tennis.?ÿ Now, the man was in total disbelief.?ÿ That's when he turned to his son and said, "Go fetch your Ma.?ÿ She needs to go in there."

I always wanted to build a go cart, but I never got the chance. We were plenty busy keeping up with mowing the lawn and fixing the old lawnmowers. That's why I prefer to keep using an old lawn tractor just like the one I used as a kid. It requires it's share of fixing though. It just doesn't seem the same using the 2005 cub cadet that came with the house. I prefer shifting the gears myself.?ÿ

@hpalmer?ÿ

I haven't read the article (almost scared to) but are they saying we now have chickens who can live and think and grow but can't move because they have no bones? This seems kind of torturous in my mind. I'm no vegetarian but I think the treatment of animals in large corporate farms is a problem.?ÿ

@350rocketmike nice. Yeah had a uncle that had plenty of money it seemed. He was always buying the latest riding mower. ?ÿWe had several go karts made. They never lasted to long we were pretty hard on them lol. We could keep the engines going it was the adapted wide rear axels that we tacked welded extention on that always broke by the time we were smart enough to figure it out we had moved on from go karts to dune buggies lol and trucks.

I don't think I've ever stood on an escalator unless I was stuck behind people who were. I see them as a way of increasing my speed.?ÿ

@olemanriver?ÿ

I had a little 75cc 1979 Honda dirt bike as a kid. I got it cheap from my cousin. I put a lot of hours on that riding around our property. I also did a lot of driving our 78 Chevy half ton through the woods. I only got it buried once and it sat with water up to the doors overnight until we winched it out with dads friends Bronco. Unfortunately, dad being crazy busy at the time we never changed out the fluids in the diffs etc so a few years later when I was maybe 14, the front differential stopped differentialing. I still have the truck today, kept at my friend's place with a bunch of parts cars. It runs and drives (with an auxiliary fuel tank) but has no exhaust, no 4 wheel drive, no brakes and it doesn't stay in park at idle. And the body is completely rusted out. I'm waiting to win the lottery so I can fix it up one day. I loved that truck so much as a kid.?ÿ

@350rocketmike lol yes i have a 78 ford flatbed I bought and it is about the same it needs some tlc. Really i just need to pull the motor and overhaul it. I keep waiting for a nice shop so my girls and i can do it as a couple winter projects. ?ÿThose old Chevy and fords that were automatic transmissions did have some issues with jumping into gear. Especially if you put a cam in them. Sitting idling and they some how always decided to start creeping across the farm. I hope you get a chance to resurrect that old truck. It takes a lot of money but its fun. ?ÿMy biggest issue with mine is the wiring harness is shot. Dry rotted and mice and rats. Other than needing some new rings and such. I am no electric person. It takes way to much focus than i have to figure out wiring diagrams. ?ÿIf I ever build a nice shop i will pull motor and transmission. ?ÿAnd just buy a replacement harness to it after re doing the whole cab inside and out. ?ÿBut now looking at buying the new 7.3 crate gas engine for it instead of rebuilding the old 351m thats in it now.

I posed a question some 20 yrs ago to my booze allen partner neighbor:?ÿ My chainsaw is broken, do I fix it or buy a new one??ÿ He argues it cost more money to fix - I say we are dumping good stuff and buying cheap stuff and upsetting trade balance.?ÿ I fixed the saw and used it for another 20 yrs fixing it several time in the interim - still works.?ÿ Retired it this past year with ezgo electric.

cheaper (in short term) to buy new than fix broken.?ÿ Try and find a person to fix a computer board, find repair shops to rebuild a car engine, find someone to fix an appliance.?ÿ Most always cheaper to buy new

@hpalmer yes itƒ??s easier to buy new. All my equipment like chainsaw weed eaters and such. I bought the upper professional level equipment than the cheaper stuff so i can repair it. The issue with a lot of stuff made these days is they design it to almost be impossible to repair. It is as if the design it to fail so we have to buy new. Appliances on the upper technology range like washing machine dryers etc i buy the basic cheap ones. ?ÿThey are easier to fix and repair. The upper end ones i am not smart enough to fix. Lol. My mom had bought herself a new fancy one and 2 years it had broke. My step dad is very good at fixing stuff and he said he could not fix it and the cost if a expert and the part was so that he was not happy. ?ÿIt wan another few years and broke again. They went back to the cheap basic models. As well. My chainsaw is designed that i can take and rebuild the carburetor on a tailgate of the truck if need be. All designed for the expert tree folks. I love it. So easy to maintain and such.

@olemanriver?ÿ

Yeah the electrical is screwed on mine too. Last time the ignition and starter had to be jumper wired to start it up. The original 350 small block just always seems to start up and run on all 8 and doesn't even smoke. The frame looks like brand new still, just needs all new body (parts were cheap until these trucks blew up in value), a front differential swap and lots of other work.?ÿ

I did own a 78 f100 with a 302 for a bit. I paid 300 but couldn't afford to fix up the bodywork needed at the time so I sold it for 600 a couple years later. I loved that truck and the way it drove. Just a 2 wheel drive so it was actually decent on fuel.?ÿ

@350rocketmike I love the 78 79 model fords. I liked the look of them. I liked the look of the old Chevy as well in those years. But always preferred fords. ?ÿI liked the 351 windser for a two wheel drive youngster showing off years. ?ÿ My favorite engine is the 300 inline 6. ?ÿJust will not die. ?ÿI just sold a 94 with inline 6 2 years ago. I was not going to sell it just a friend needed something in a bad way and i gave in lol. ?ÿWish i had not. It was reliable and ran like a sewing machine. I would jump in and drive 8 hours straight with no fear at all. My wife had become tired of being cramped in it on the farm as it was a single cab. So I bought a new truck first time in my life. ?ÿRight before the new prices soared. I was lucky. ?ÿ2 weeks later that same truck was 10k more and now about 15k more.

You are out in the boonies far from a house and have no cell phone reception.?ÿ Your survey chariot overheats severely.?ÿ Once it cools down enough to check the radiator you discover you need at least two gallons of relatively clean water added before attempting to start up again.?ÿ There is a small slough about a quarter mile away that you remember seeing with some standing water.?ÿ How do you get the water, clean it and haul it to the chariot based on the items you have on hand.?ÿ Sorry, but you do not have any single standard liquid holder with you larger than about a pint.?ÿ Good luck.

@olemanriver?ÿ

Yeah the 78-79 was the best looking especially with the square headlights. My friend has a beautiful blue and white one, he upgraded to a 351w when the 302 blew up. It works good. The 351m was not known to be nearly as reliable as the Windsor or the 351c it was somewhat based on. 300 6 was always a reliable engine but the older ones couldn't get out of their own way. I got to learn to drive a 3 on the tree with one of those.?ÿ

I've always been a gm guy, just had and seen better luck with their engines. Tried to kill a few 305 small blocks with no luck.?ÿ

Looking for a pic of my friends truck right now.?ÿ
