I'm new on here and thrilled to find this forum, living in a bit of a bubble in Alaska as I do.

Recently upgraded from my Trimble 5700 & 5800 receivers to a pair of Trimble R8 GNSS
receivers. In the process I had to upgrade my controller software. After using TDS's
Survey Pro happily for years, I opted to go with Spectra Precision's version 5.2 to talk with my new R8 babies. About a year ago Trimble Geomatics Office mysteriously stopped post processing and I was left in a bit of a lurch so we purchased Trimble Business Center (v2.5) Now Spectra Precision has a new file format, no more .job & .raw files, they're combined into a single .survey file. After going around in circles with my Trimble dealer (where are they once they have your money?)I talked with Spectra Precsion and was told by them that TBC v2.8 will recognize these .survey files, otherwise I would have to purchase their Spectra Precision Survey Office software, which is basically the same as TBC. Having a heck of time upgrading my TBC from v2.5 to v2.8 and unsure about laying out $2795 for Spectra's version of the same thing!

Anybody out there got first hand experience with this? Any guidance or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

What are you running into with your upgrade?. 2.8 will accept .survey files, but Survey Pro can still go .job/.raw and you can use that in 2.6. Just go to export, .job/.raw and go from there.

We have been working on this with some people here and more then one solution is available ... but that's too late since you have TBC now.

[msg=16]TGO 1 billion second problem workaround[/msg]

I'm still working with Trimble Access and TGO, so no much help for the Spectra Office ...

Welcome aboard!

I recently got a new laptop and loaded tbc ver 2.6 on as i had the install cd , i then tried to migrate straight to ver 2.81, but it would not work, i had to load each succesive upgrade in sequance, lucky i save the 600 mb install files when i download them.

So basically i had to load the upgrade to 2.7, then the 2.8 upgrade and finally the 2.81 upgrade, took about a half a morning to get sorted. Make sure your software waranty is still valid as it will load the new versions, but you will lose the licensed features on the new upgrade if you are out of warranty. Your warranty expiry date is shown under help license.

Try that.

what pdop said is correct... you cannot go from one to another with skipping versions inbetween.

NO need to buy SPSO in addition to TBC...it is essentially the same program.

I really like the new functionality in Survey Pro 5.2

I beleive the warranty issue is at least part of my problem as it expired 1-4-13 while I was away on holiday but I'd done as suggested and upgraded in stages and looked like I was in good shape prior to it expiring but then when importing one of these .survey files into TBC, the program would lock up, flat line and I'd have to shut it down. My local Trimble rep has said he will see about getting my warranty extended but has otherwise been unresponsive. Rather frustrating really. I can at least just export in the old .job/.raw format but I'm afraid that when I re-export a .job back into the DC for work in progress, it will then convert it back to .survey and overwrite the existing raw data in the .survey file. I suppose I can just save a seperate .raw file for each transfer for a back up and then edit them back together when done, at least until I get TBC up to 2.81 and functioning properly.

Thanks to everyone for your suggestions. I wish I'd found this forum long ago!

Cheers!
