How can I separate one page out of a multi page dwg? there are 5 sheets all combined into one dwg file, only 1 of which I need.

I am using Carlson Takeoff with acad embedded, but Survey is supposed to work the same.

Also... I can't find my command window, it's lost! Shift F9 or F9 dosen't do anything for me, it is not reduced is size at the bottom or at the top.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Jeff

You have been sent a drawing that has been prepared in Paper Space and has multiple sheets or "layouts". At the bottom of the screen should be a bar that shows a Models space tab and the multiple Layout tabs. Each layout tab represents a separate drawing. If the tabs are not appearing, go to the SETTINGS pull down and select AUTOCAD OPTIONS. Select the second tab that says DISPLAY. In the lower left corner you will see "Layout Elements". Check the box that says DISPLAY LAYOUT AND MODEL TABS. Now you can copy the tab you want.
IF the guy has loaded multiple, complete drawings into one overall drawing, simply copy the one you want to the clipboard, open a new drawing and paste the data from the clipboard to the original coordinates.
Now to the missing command line. CTRL+9 usually works in AutoCAD only. for Carlson you do the following:

At the bottom of your AutoCAD/Carlson screen, enable the DYN (Dynamic Input) button.

Alternatively, use the F12 function key to toggle Dynamic Input.
When Dynamic Input is enabled, type commandline and press Enter. This should bring your Command: line back.
You can stretch the Command: line to show more lines if needed by placing your mouse between the drawing window and the Command: line window until you see the re-size arrows appear. Drag/re-size the Command: to a position and size of your choosing.

Ok, the F12 worked, got the command line back, Thanks!

I have the tabs with each sheet on bottom left, I can click on the tabs and switch between sheets, I can go between paper and model space.

However I guess I am not selecting the drawing correctly, because it does not copy over to a new drawing, giving it the insertion point of 0,0, I will say that even in model space, I still see what I would think of as a paper sheet, not a drawing 'file.

Remember this mantra: PAPER SPACE IS FOR PLOTTING ONLY.

All of your measurable information is in Model Space. If you want a working drawing, to scale, you will need to copy the Model Space data into another drawing, then copy the paper Space border into that drawing and insert it ay scale. (The border will probably be at a scale of 1=1.

You data must be collected from the Model Space drawing. The other stuff is for plotting or looking at only. (You can be in paper space and move your cross hairs into model space and get distances, etc. )It's the same as zooming to the appropriate area in the model space version.

IF you are not real comfortable with Paper Space, send me your email address and I can send you a training document that I have prepared on basic Paper Space that may help you some.

Yes I was in Model space.

The clipboard copy goes ok, but I just can not get it to paste into a new dwg.

I have up loaded the .dwg file to dropbox also if you care to look at it.

Thank you for your help!

You Could probably just copy the whole dwg in the project folder
then rename it to something other than the original and open it.

Then go to the paperspace dwg's and put your cursor over the dwg name
and rt click and hit delete. Delete all the unnecessary sheets and
you should be good to go.

Okay, got 'most' of it copied onto a new dwg. I still had misc. stuff in the clipboard that came over also, I selected that stuff and erased it.

I guess I need to clear the clipboard buffer first? IDK.

I think what I have will work now.

Thanks again! Jeff

You can also erase everything that you don't want and save the remaining drawing under a new name

Something that has gotten me is locked layers. When you select something make sure the 'selected' number changes appropriately.

Another way to do it, although not quite as quick, is to save the drawing as a template (.dwt) file. Then open your new drawing, right click the paper space tab and select "import from template". A dialog box will then open and you can select the proper template and then the proper paper space tab and it will insert it into your drawing as the same paper space tab as the original.
