I've been trying this as an alternative to embedded AutoCAD with Carlson for a couple of months now...figured I would try it before giving it to my guys. I don't think I will ever use it again...so many reasons...Here are a few...*Settings not holding...I set them (thinks like support file locations) and they are reset the next time I open the program.*Working with images is horrible...it cannot render large raster files property. If you zoom in the image disappears, if you try to rotate, etc it hides everything under it that I am trying to snap to, etc. *Random crashes when working with large DTM files, it just can't graphically process it all.*inability to work with PDF files*not compatible with annotative text*dimension settings do not appear to work properly*random quirks...today it would not let me select anything. Couldn't make a box, couldn't grab anything, etc.*bad display of curves, intersections, etc when zooming in close.*lack of support for complex linetypes.*When zooming objects often replicate (only on the display) and regen only sometimes removes them...other times I have to restart the program.*Plotting issues with portrait and landscape settings (I usually plot from TruView now)*ThisNotice which line is selected...the grip is 7mm (metric drawing) off from the line selected (I had to draw a circle to check it...if I snap perp, it goes to the other line). Things like this happen all the time.*lots of little things that make things go faster, like when you click plot window in AutoCAD it automatically sets the OSNAP to endpoint...nothing major but little things that speed up drafting. Thats just what I can remember right now. I've uninstalled it and re-installed from scratch, I've spoken to tech support, I've visited various forums...nothing. My machine is a brand new HP Envy with an Intel i7 Haswell chip, 12 gigs of RAM, and Win8 64bit. I've done some pretty detailed renderings and point could stuff on it so I know it is up to the task.It's fine as a secondary program for the field guys to run quick calcs on but it is not up to the task of a proper primary CAD and drafting system. AutoDesk has earned my money back.PS...nothing against Carlson...they make great software and they have great support. I'll probably still run Carlson but with embedded AutoCAD again.
