I have a phantom line that only shows up on the plots, not in the cad drawing. I can't find it anywhere.

I'm sure this has happened before.

How do I gert rid of it?

Thanks

Is the line on all plots no matter which drawing you have open, or is it limited to one drawing?

If it is on all plots, it is most likely the plotter itself that has an issue. Try running the maintenance routine for your plotter to see if this clears it up. If not, it may be time for a service call.

If it is in the drawing, do you have a dotted line that is plotting close to continuous?

I'm sure I haven't thought of everything, but I hope this helps.

Someone may be messing with you. I have seen office jokesters set someone's computer so that whenever they plot something, really nasty words appear in the plot. They do that by adding features to the *.dwt file and set their color to the same as the background color. Set a line to color black in a drawing with a black background and you will not see it until you plot something.
I have a feeling that the problem resides in your *.dwt template because it is happening in all of your drawings. Open the *.dwt file. Set the LT Scale to 1. If, as suggested before, it's a dotted line type, it should show up and you can erase it. If it does not show up, assume it is set to color black, so zoom WAY out, like a zoon .0000025x and then erase with a crossing box that covers the entire screen. If none of this works, then it is some kind of plotter problem that I have never seen before.

On a "blank" drawing try "list" & "crossing" and see if there is anything there.

Or try list "all" and see if anything appears.

Does this line always appear in the same place on the printed sheet?

It may not be in the DWG file, it appears to be in the DWT file. Do not start a new drawing, but rather open the DWT file directly and see what you may find.
Also, look in the PURGE listing for the DWT file and see if there is anything there that may be the culprit.

Also, if you are trying to "select" and delete your whole screen, make sure there are no "locked" layers.

I've seen this before, it only shows up when you plot it. I was able to fix the problem by deleting the viewport and drawing a new one on the drawing that had an issue. I'd look into that. Or try wblocking everything in modelspace out to a different drawing and create a new viewport in paperspace.

And there is the missing link I didn't know until now. Since the line is showing up in the preview, this is definitely not a hardware issue.

I'd follow everyone's great advice concerning .dwt files, w-blocking, purging, etc.

I fixed the line issue, by copying to clipboard the whole drawing and the creating a new drawing and pasting it to the original coords, line is now gone.

I'm still in my coordinate system.

thank you all.
