It keeps removing the CRD files from the emails sent to me. Oh well. It's just a septic design; I'll just draft the contours by hand.

Outlook has been removing .exe files for years. The work around I heard of and used was to give the file another extension (such as .doc). The person on the receiving end would then redo the proper extension and things would be hunky-dory. Perhaps the same principal would work on CRD files?

[sarcasm]Don't we just love how Mother Microsoft just has to protect us from ourselves?![/sarcasm]

Ditto, have sender change the file extension to "txt". When you download change the extension back to "crd".

I no longer use Outlook Express, but I used to get messages where the attachments were shown grayed out and inaccessible. I found a security setting that told it to allow attachments with all extensions.

Here's the how-to copied from a Google search:

Microsoft Outlook Express is setup by default to block some attachments, for example .exe files and other executable files Microsoft considers unsafe. Although this feature can be disabled, we suggest you leave it enabled if you're running Outlook Express. If you wish to send an executable file through e-mail, compress the file.

For users who are aware of the potential risks of accepting executable files and wish to disable this feature, follow the below steps.

Open Outlook Express
Click Tools
Click Options
Click the Security tab
Within the Security Window under Virus Protection, uncheck "Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus"
Click Ok

Below is a listing of file extension Microsoft considers unsafe when sent through e-mail.

.ad, .adp, .crt, .ins, .mdb, .mde, .msc, .msp, .sct, .shb, .vb, .wsc, .wsf, .cpl, .shs, .vsd, .vst, .vss, .vsw, .asp, .bas, .bat, .chm, .cmd, .com, .exe, .hlp, .hta, .inf, .isp, .js, .jse, .lnk, .msi, .mst, .pcd, .pif, .reg, .scr, .url, .vbe, .vbs, .ws, and .wsh.

I tried that but ...

either it didn't work or...

the sender didn't follow instructions

I have an older version of Outlook (not express) from 2003. That option does not exist in my version.

you can also turn it into a zip file and send and have them unzip on the other end.

Job's all done anyway. My contours look better then those voodoo contours that come out of the triangulation & contouring routine anyway.

[sarcasm]So, what does the newer, younger, hipper folks use these days? If you say "smart phones", you will have to buy one for me and pay the exorbitant monthly fees, then get me something bigger so I can actually see the screen![/sarcasm]

knowing how to contour is a dying art.

i have to explain at least once a month after my cad man runs the contour routine in carlson - no, that perfectly graded 3:1 slope you shot does not have a big ditch running down the middle of it. you have a bust somewhere.

Don't get me wrong. I love Carlson's contouring routine for big jobs, but for a 40 shot septic job where I need 2 footers, I can draw 2-d polylines with the mouse faster. And I don't have to fool around with all of those tails near the edge of the inclusion zone.
