This requires reading comprehension, if you lack that do not give me suggestions for the way you do it up north.
Carlson Survey 2018.
I have my codes for Field 2 Finish all set up and they are saved as a .FLD file on the computer. That is what the Carlson Survey desktop software saves them as and I cannot change it or at least I have not found they way to do that.
I need to get the same codes into my new tablet & it is using Carlson SurvPC. Here's the rub though, the data collector is looking for a .FLT file.
I cannot save the desktop file to a .FLT & I cannot seem to find any way to import a .FLD file so am I left to hand enter all of the d@mned codes or is there a simpler way.

Up north of here someone might clock you with his hockey stick for talking like that. Good luck with your problem.
For certain file types, I've changed the extension to txt or asc and have been able to open the file with Word.

I know and they are welcome to give it a try......but I seem to attract frequent comments or opinions of others asking why or offering suggestions for another software and I am not interested in other software or hearing their opinions on the way they did something with a 20 year old data collector.

I have thought about that and planned on doing it to see what it looks like.
I'm also going to save the data collector .FLT file and see if I can open it up with something else to examine the format but quite frankly this is bloody ridiculous. I had the same issue years ago and we still cannot save a F2F file from a desktop and import it into the collector. You would think they would have some means to facilitate that.
You may want to check this out. We use Calson F2F I will look at the data collector when one of the field crews get back. To better answer your question.

I am familiar with al of that, I've been using the F2F for a long long time and that is not the issue. My issue is getting the Codes from my F2F file in my desktop into my new tablet without having to type the darned things in manually. There is not enough bourbon in the liquor store to get me through that.
Assuming that your internet connection does not allow you to use Carlson Help and your phone does not allow you to use Carlson's phone number, be brave and change the .fld to .flt and try that. I opened an fld file in Notepad and it appears to be a 100% ascii file.
As an alternative contact Ladd Nelson on this board, but I am not sure if he is a Northern boy or not.

Then you should read page 6 of that pdf.

If you open the field to finish dialog and click EDIT CODES then CODE TABLE SETTINGS there you can export the code table to a FCL file format. That may be able to be read in on the data collector.

Well what do you know....that's exactly what I was looking for. Thank you.....you're the greatest.
Problem solved.....whooooo hoooooo
Is Virginia Beach VA north of Northwest Georgia?
EDIT (oops): Please disregard my lack of reading comprehension in my haste to sling mud. I apologize.

Glad to have been able to help, I hope you can drink that Bourbon for some enjoyment this weekend, and not from stress of Surveying.

It depends on who is holding the map. My mother is convinced that if your going uphill your going north. It does not matter if you are driving into the setting sun if you're going uphill you ARE going north.

I always thought North was whichever way I happen to be facing at any given moment. (oh, wait, maybe that's why he didn't want any comments from northerners.)
I did not read all the comments.
The FLD can be anywhere. My file lives on my server so everyone uses the same.
The FLD is a text file with that weird vertical line as a delimiter. It will open in excel using that delimiter. I was told the interface for 2018 is more like a spreadsheet but still lacks all the functionality of excel. To get out of excel, either save as a CSV and replace all commas with vertical lines or change your windows global settings from comma to vertical line and save the excel to CSV (which I guess would be LSV). Then change the global settings back.

Yes.....thats exactly how my mother is and she will argue and get mad if you try to correct here. I've just learned to go with it.
As a boy putting up Christmas decorations she would give directions on where to put up the lighted star. "Go a little more north on the ROOF"....no no come back a little SOUTH.
North is up.
