Trying to get the serial data connection up between my Topcon TS and computer (no DC). Having problems (I think) with the drivers for my USB-serial adapter. I don't really have any files I can use to test the connection. Would any one have a sample file...say a simple coordinate file or even a TSV ASCII file that I might use to test the connection?

I haven't sorted out my longer term plan for data collection, software, etc., so intend for now to simply use the data connection as a slightly less error prone "electronic field book" than my current data gathering methodology (pushing lead).

I suggest exporting the TopSurv file format.

Then you will need TopconLink (FREE) to convert this to many other formats suitable for your Cogo and CAD software.

Such as:
RW5
RAW
SDR
DXF
CSV
DWG and many more.

Thanks for the advice. Anyone got one (a small one preferably)?

It's a binary file format. You will NOT be able to read TSV or TSVL format without Topcon software.

Are you familiar with RAW and RW5 formats?

What software do you use for cogo and field reduction?

It's a PITA to send you a file on this forum.

Send me an email. I will send a sample file.

I've been able to get data into Topcon Link, but not out, in any form that works. If by "not able to read", you mean that even though they may be TSV files, you still can't open them in Excel, I believe you'd be correct, lol.

I did try exporting XML and that seemed to create a valid xml file, but still, I have no software to use those.

I think, for now, at least, I'm seeking the equivalent of an "electronic field book", to augment my lead and paper field book, that I can print out for reference.

It all may be moot though, using Topcon Tools, because I think they stopped updating the software prior to the manufacture of my TS. I can't browse the files within the instrument, and the model of my unit doesn't come up in the "browse for instrument" list.

Back to the drawing board.
