I have come up against an issue with Magnet and it's got me scratching my head.
On import, my field jobs indicate they were set up scaling about a specific point. We never work that way and the crew swears they are setting up correctly. Easy fix, just change to scale factor of 1 at 0.0 as we are working in LDP that approximates ground very well.
When we go back to any project, we are seeing random changes to our Grid to Ground scaling options. We fix them, validate the data then save. Re-open the project and a whole new type of incorrect grid to ground setting is there.
To say I am unhappy with the software would be the understatement of the century. It's what I have to work with so I deal with it. This new 'undocumented feature' has rendered it less than useless. Has anyone else run into this with Magnet Office. We are running 2.7.1 64 bit...

Sounds like the imported data had different coordinate system settings or datum parameters. It's happened to me, as I work on many different projects, many different projections. For instance the default project settings may be SPC83 NY Central, then user changed toggle for Use Grid/Ground.

Set up a SOP (standard operating procedure), make sure everyone uses it. Myself I always work in SPC with the Grid/Ground toggled off.

Lee,

Thanks for the reply. We do have somewhat rigid standards in place. The guys running the equipment are pretty sharp too. I can live with checking the two boxes to fix import until we find that problem. The part that scares me is the randomly changing parameters every time I open the project. I am talking seconds apart on the same machine. The job I'm working on now just moved itself to 5K/10K with no input. We only have one hardware lock so nobody could be messing with it.

Strange days... Tom

I'm using 2.7.1, can't say I ever seen that happen by itself.

I can't understand why the coordinates would change by that amount.

Are you using state plane coordinates?

If not, then your projection and datums should be set to none.

What controller are you using Magnet with?

Are you using GPS or Optical when this happens?

If you are working in LDP it should be defined in the userprojection file and you should be surveying in grid.

We are, except the combined data files will only process total station data if you set grid to ground scale factor to 1...

I am in an LDP that is approximately equal to our local GIS. We are on datum (NAD83) using projections I developed 10 years ago. We have used this method since day 1. Suddenly the software is assigning random scale and translation parameters to the grid to ground dialogue box.
