Thanks for replying! I never paid attention to the (r+l) before until someone pointed it out. In my opinion, it's too much information because I already know I'm taking direct and reverse readings. Who came up with the terms left face and right face??ÿ

Those terms are really old - predates glass circle instruments - and probably goes back to the days of vernier instruments where the circle was physically on one or other side of telescope and where you stood to read it.
