Okay, I am back. Tom B & Cristof L have been very helpful so far. Thanks guys !
I think that the trouble I am having is related to these "little red x's" on the Trimble Job file names.

I have run a superantispyware check on the files & they seem okay.
I have emailed these files to Tom & Christof & they were able to convert the same files a okay.
How do I get rid of the red x's ?
Little red "x"- Brad
That red X seems to be associated with web browser settings... Google Little red x ON WINDOWS FILES The files (on your end) may just be corrupt.
Thanks Paul
I have been googling all day on this...
... I also suspect this may be an evil "Norton" thing.
A couple years ago I did all I could to un-install Norton and all its evil parts with a lot of help from you guys. Since then I have been happily using SuperAntiSpyware (Thanks Eric).
This little red x just reminds me of old Norton s*it...
Thanks Paul - Brad
Check those files and find out what program they are associated with for opening them up.
Compare them with other files with the *job extension that do not have a problem opening up correctly.
tried that too
I tried associating *.job files to Notepad & also to XML Editor...no help.
Keep brainstorming.
I am trying this on my laptop now that never had Norton & uses AVG instead of SAS...
tried that too
Email me the files Brad
email sent
Thanks brother.
I am getting the exact same problem with the little red x & same error message on my laptop too!
Must be like Tom said "Perhaps some sort of magnetic anomaly in Indiana is preventing you from doing this?"
tried that too
I don't think job files are ascii format. Try changing the extention to txt or csv and see if the red mark goes away. Just a guess but I would say you don't have a program installed that recognizes the *.job extension.
I believe you only get the *.job when you copy and paste from the data card directly to the pc, if you download the file with trimble if will be given a *.dc or *.dat
Thanks for trying Paul

Gentlemen ?
File extension JOB description:
Task Scheduler is a component of Microsoft Windows that provides the ability to schedule the launch of programs or scripts at pre-defined times or after specified time intervals. It was first introduced in the Windows 95 Plus! pack as System Agent but was renamed to Task Scheduler in Windows 98. Definitions and schedules are stored in binary .job files.
It appears that your computer thinks that those files are Task Schedule files.
That's just the Task Object icon.
You can change it.
Step 1: Open My Computer and go to Tools and then Folder Options.
Step 2: Click on the File Types tab and you’ll see a listing of all the registered file types on your computer along with the extensions and the icon.
Step 3: Scroll down to the file extension you want to change the icon for and then select it in the list. After that, click on the Advanced button at the bottom of the dialog.
Step 4: Click the Change Icon button at the top right and choose your replacement icon.
You can change it.
RFB I think you are on to something. I will try this when I return to the office.
