Carlson has to buy something and still be able to resell it and make a profit.
I myself can get by with what I have, but like everyone else, I would like more.

Autodesk are in control yes but your original statement about what is left out remains untrue. Done with this conversation.
I wish....
Carlson supported 250 characters of note.
And, displayed only the first 20, or 30 (user configurable)
It would accept the pdf report, out of my javad, and would associate screen shots, and field photos, with points. Simply click on an intetactive node, and the "rest of the point data" shows up on your second monitor, or as a popup, on your single monitor.
It also supported the voice files, from javad.
There's nothing wrong with wishing... 🙂

Does this not work in Carlson?
Command Line:
L
@50.00'<N80d04'37"W
Kevin,
Just tried it and it works. One thing i am still getting used to Carlson was i didn't see a line by bearing command. I was using the deed input function and you have to set up a crd. Seemed unnecessary for just trying to draw some lines.

Under the COGO menu, look for the Line by Angle-Distance command. Standard angle codes (1=NE 2=SE 3=SW 4=NW 5=AZ 6=AngLeft 7=AngRight 8=DefLeft 9=DefRight) would be applied so a "N80d04'37"W" (as cited earlier) would be entered simply as 480.0437. I hope this information helps.
Since this thread is already started I would like to hear more input from everyone on the functionality that you would like to have in your drafting software. I am on the tail end of developing a surveying application that is very similar to other applications mentioned without the frustrating parts. It runs in BricsCAD, which is a very stable AutoCAD alternative at a fraction of the price. I have retained the BricCAD command structure so you can use it as it was intended. If you want to create line work using your data points, it has a separate command for that. I store all point data inside the drawing file, so there are no external .crd files to deal with. You can go straight into BricsCAD and start drawing.
I am also working with BricsCAD to create a standalone version of my application, similar to what you would see with AutoCAD OEM versions of the competitors. The bonus with BricsCAD is that it is not a stripped down version of the original. You will have a full featured CAD platform running under my application.
So, please list any other features you would like to see and not see in your software and I will try best to make it happen. I would like to see viewpoints other than my own on the matter. I will also be looking for beta testers prior to release, if anyone is interested...
Thanks,
Kevin

As suggested in the Autodesk thread, my interest would be in surface modeling features, primarily creating a model (3dfaces from nodes, lines, 3dpolylines and 3dfaces), generating contours (polylines at elevation), and earthwork quantities (surface-to-surface volume differences).
Jim,
Surface modeling will not be included in the initial release, however I plan on having it available for the next major update within 1 year of the initial release.
