Anybody out there know a fix for the following error in LDD 2006: "autocad prototype path does not exist"
Thanks in advance for any light you may be able to shed on this! 🙂
"Prototypes" in LDT are the settings files for the Land Desktop part of the program. Sort of similar to, but distinct from, a template file for the drawing settings. In my copy of Land Desktop3 the out of the box prototype path is C:ProgramsLand Desktop 3DataPROTOTYPES. You can change that path in the Project pulldown, under User Preferences.
Thank you Mark, I will try your suggestion.
Have a great weekend! 😎

If this is an existing install that has worked fine until now, I'd be wanting to know why it changed. More than once when little unexplained errors started popping up the final answer ended up being that the hard drive was starting to fail.

Thanks Stephen. It's a current install that actually works on Win 10. The problem started after windows 10 decided to "update" itself yesterday.
Peter Ehlert posted a link to a Windows 10 tool kit which will prevent automatic updates, but I know if I start foolinÛª with it IÛªll end up in worse shape than I am now. 😉

I switched from LDD2 on AutoCAD2000 a few years back to Carlson on AutoCAD2012 because once I updated to Win 7-64; AutoCAD would self-destruct on a regular basis. Any little thing that got changed by Microsoft or any other application installed on the machine could/would result in fatal errors when opening AutoCAD. Uninstalling and reinstalling AutoCAD would fix the issue for a while, but future blow-ups were a certainty.
Again thank you all. Mark Mayers post encouraged me to search and discover that my "sdsk.dfm" file was none existent.
Replaced it and it works fine! 🙂

I seem to remember that SDSK.DFM was prone to getting corrupted from time to time. Nevertheless Stephen is right. As that program gets older is apt to be quirky in the new operating systems.
I just lost all LDD operation on my LDD 2009 after updating from C3D 2015 to 2016. Looks like I get to reload LDD for about the 300th time.

If you have C3D 2016, why do you still need LDD?

I suspect for various reasons. You can run different versions of acad on the same computer provided you make sure each version has its own directory and path locations.

Aside from the fact that I like some features in LDD, I have several projects that have been going on for years and were started in LDD.

To each their own but why wouldn't you upgrade those projects to C3D? I'm sure it's not as easy as said, I've been there but in the end you'll be better off. LDD is no longer supported by Autodesk so I wouldn't want to see you get "hung" because of an out of date software. Just my $.02.
You obviously know WAY more about what you're doing than I do so I'm not trying to tell you how to operate, just asking questions.
Keep on, keepin' on.

Heck, I still use LDD 2006 and C3D 2010. They work fine on the same computer. Until I can find something less expensive than any AUTODESK product (ie: BricsCAD, MicroSurvey or Traverse PC) I'll use them until they are extinct. If anyone could suggest another less expensive alternative than any AUTODESK product it would be appreciated. 😎
Just an FYI: I had a system go down with LDD05 on it. When re-installing to the new computer Autodesk informed me that they will never again issue authorization codes for LDD. Ever. It's gone and even though we paid full price and bought a real seat of it we can never install it again, according to the Autodesk rep that I dealt with. Anyone experience anything similar very recently? I'd love to have a way to re-install and get it running again. The old computer is cooked.

This is exactly what I was referring to in my earlier post. We experienced this same exact thing so we upgraded everyone to C3D. I know that not everyone on here has that availability but I would suggest searching for another software or something comparable before you get hung out to dry by Autodesk.

Well, (and Wendell will finally ban me forever, thank God ) you can hit the pirate sites and find out all sorts of ways to circumvent your frustration. However, "Big Brother" is watching. 😉

I've learned to only go into the fringes of the internet (ie. pirate sites, music, video, etc) from computers that I don't care about and preferably on someone else's network. You can and will catch things that computer doctors can't cure.

I know exactly what you mean. The pleasure is definitely NOT worth the pain. Learned that lesson a loooong time ago. It's kinda like you don't know what a second degree burn feels like until you receive one. 😉
Due to some sort of DNA/RNA screw up I have always had to learn things the hard way. Sigh.
