So we??ve just about exhausted all of our demo time and I have not seen much difference between the hyper V or the SP 80. Anyone have any input on which way should we should go before we pull the trigger? ?ÿ?ÿ

I have always said that a person should shop for data collector software and then buy the hardware that comes with it. So which works better with your office work flow, Survey Pro or Magnet?
For the record, I have used both the SP80 and the Topcon Hiper. While there isn't anything particularly wrong with either one, neither would be my first or even second choice.?ÿ ?ÿ

First, what I currently use is largely the product of choices made by others. That is a pair of Trimble R8s' run with Survey Pro. I'd prefer to run them with Access. And I'd prefer that they were R10's. But the price on the R8s was competitive with the Hipers, and they could be run with Survey Pro, which we already had.
I was very unimpressed with the build quality of the SP80. And I was able, without too much effort, to get it to record very poor quality coordinates with good statistics.
I'd be looking at Leica, which I have also used, if I couldn't get the Trimbles for some reason. And if that wasn't an option, well, lots of guys are ga-ga over theirs Javads, and you sure can't beat the price point.
Survey Pro will run the Trimble R8s OK but their are annoying bluetooth connectivity problems. I've been assured that Trimble has recently cooperated with Spectra Precision and shared some "codes" that may fix that in the near future. Survey Pro is pretty good for construction staking, not so much for other things. Oh, it does stuff alright. But there are just way too many screen clicks to navigate from one thing to another to suit me.

we use survey pro and love it. And love it even more after testing Magnet. Liked the Hipers but not the DC and software.?ÿ
We are using SP80's w/ Survey Pro (as well as back up Epoch 50's when needed). I'm and old TDS48 guy, and Survey Pro developed from that. (Soon will demo carlson survCE)
The 80's do really well, esp. under canopy. Getting 15-22+ SV all the time. And Survey Pro is seamless from GPS to optical.
Agreed, the 80's build quality is poor. Both units have busted battery retainers- small plastic clips like those in your TV remote, and we must use bungee cords to keep the batteries doors closed. $3000 ea to repair. We use em hard for sure. But this is from changing batteries!

Just my two cents of using topcon, trimple and Spectra (Trimble blue). They are all good tools, I can vouch for the SP80's battery doors closing. It more or less happens from field personnel not seating the battery correctly and forcing the doors closed, no excuse but that's what the problem we identified. However if you are using SurveyPro as your DC software I would look into Spectra central cloud corrections for base/Rover setups. It's a game changer if you work in areas with any cell coverage.

The "Hipers" I was referring to were "Hiper Lite +" of, I think, 2005? vintage. Heavy like a boat anchor. Bought from the dealers rental pool and then used for several years.?ÿ
