Recently purchased a Topcon GPT-3205 Total station and I am trying to connect to a TDS Ranger with Survey Pro via RS232 cable.
Have a current configuration for an older Topcon 3002 has Com 1, Baud Rate-1200, Parity-Even but it doesn't seem to work on the 3205. The factory settings on the 3205 total station are the same the current configuration for the 3002. I checked the cable by connecting to a old Nikon 300, seems to be working fine. ANY SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE APPRECIATED

As I recall the 232 cable is wired differently for different brands. A Nikon cable may not work with a Topcon.

I think the GPT series mechanical style total station is what you need, and the default settings "should" work.

I believe they are called different things in different versions. I have two older Rangers (500X and 300X), and a Ranger 3, and they all run different versions of Surey Pro, and they are all slightly different on what they call my Topcon CTS3007. total station. I have to use the GPT Mechanical Series, I believe.

I have three different style cables in my supplies that plug into a Topcon total station, labeled Topcon, Nikon and Pentax. they look the same but the pinouts are different. My Topcon also works on my Sokkia TS. My Trimble (Zeiss) TS has a completely different plug. I have connected to at least seven different Topcons (3B to a 3005) over the years and all use the same settings.

You need a new cable, Nikon cable will not communicate with Topcon

You can find them from $8 to $100 on Ebay

Search string "topcon data cable rs232" will get you 163 choices.

My choice.........

Thanks for all the advise, I guess I will try the data cable first. I thought all RS232 cables were the same.

I'm not sure if the Ranger is a 300 or a 500. How can I tell? This one has Bluetooth, no WLAN, Speed 520 MHz Ram 128 MB, Flash size 512 MB the firmware is 5.0.3

The Version of Survey Pro is 4.7. The only instruments listed were the GPT series mechanical and The GPT series motorized, the 3205 in not motorized then there are the GTS series. Right now I have it on the GPT series mechanical
