I am using XP on a laptop and have running Google Earth on it for several years, but lately it will crash the computer causing it to do a system dump or something like that and reboot the computer. I re-installed Google Earth and it is still doing the same thing. Can anybody give me any suggestions as to what can be causing this, nothing has been changed on the computer that I know of. Thanks.
It's the end of the run for XP, I expect more and more stuff like this to happen.
So much of computer technology is nowadays influenced by internet, programs such as Google Earth for instance, they are keeping moving forward with times.
Just saying, not discussing choices of operating systems.
I understand, I still have a win2000 machine running LDT and it was a couple years ago that Google Earth stopped supporting win2000.
If you search for discussions of this problem, you will find a recommendation to install an older version of GE and not let it update. I had to do that, and while it isn't quite right in the opening sequence it does work ok afterward.
My copy says version 6.2.0.5905 (beta), but I don't know if it is the best one to run on XP.

I am prone to have too many webpages opened and programs running at the same time for research, amusement, work and play while multi tasking my way thru the day.
I have had Google Earth to bog down and freeze while there were too many or a very large KML file was opened. I have a county wide KML that shows every Headright, road and ownership data for every individual tract.
It will be sluggish until it finally opens and when I move around to areas that are miles apart. Kinda like a slow dialup connection.
The XP is limited on actual ram use and will put itself into a suspended mode between memory swaps and dumps.
"My music" file is around 277gb and growing and it doesn't jump onto the screen when I open it. It has the info on there twice, one directory is stored by artist and the other is an All Song directory.
When that happens to me it is time for a break and it is usually caught up ready to go when I return to my desk.

In reading all these posts, I'm starting to wonder about you all's system swap file settings. I had a VHS hardware and software package to record from VHS tape direct to the computer. After about 30 minutes it would crash the machine. After some go-rounds with their support to no avail I stumbled across the swap file settings and set it to let XP manage it itself and everything went fine from then on.
Have a look at those settings. Since you all are dealing with large amounts of data I suspect therein may lie your problems.
Now that I think of it, I wonder if that may have been a problem I was having writing a program for LarryP which was trying to open a several gigabyte TIFF image.
