Hi,

I received an as-built dwg today, all acad points have negative values.
The survey was done with DesignCad and then converted or exported to Autocad.

I have no DesignCAD and my colleague who delivers the map has no idea what he has to change. Anyone have experience with this issue and knows how to set up DesignCAD to export positive values.

Or a lisp/VBA routine to change the points elevation may be handy too.

Thanks,
Chr.

It sounds like you have a "north rotation" issue. Maybe you could have the client send you the ascii point file for a better look at the collected points.

Has it been confirmed that the original drawing has positive coordinates?

Is this the same DesignCAD that sells in office supply stores for $50?

Have you tried rotating the ucs x axis by 180d and then the y axis by 180 d, the values should change, you then copy the plan into a new template, the drawing should be upside down and have positive values. This technique worked well in auotcad 2004, but i have been battling lately with it in the new version of autocad.

Down here in the southern hemisphere, we are also in a positive system, but the software did not cater for a south azimuth system, so most people did a work around by switching to -,- system to get the south azimuth to work, it does work, but its had a mini Y2k effect, in that huge data bases and gis datasets have been built up on this incorrect co ordinate system, the time and cost it would take to change all the data back to +,+ is prohibitive, so we just carry on until ........

The city of cape towns entire gis database is built on this work around, if they ever try and link up with another dataset that is based of the correct co ordinate system, they will have a lot of work on their hands.

The reason i believe for this path they chose, was that the esri software at the time did not handle the co ordinate system we are using.

But i am not 100 % sure of that.

Good luck

Yes,
in DesignCad all values are positive.

I hoped to hear about a setting in Design Cad Export but it looks there are little or no users here.
I checked the DesignCad board and have been reading about troubles exporting to Acad.

i'll have a look at Lee's approach or making a dxf and taking the abs(elevation) should do the trick ...

thanks for the suggestions,

Chr.
