Grabbed the calculator to make a quick bunch of coordinate calculations and it was dead.
Won't turn on.?ÿ Of course I changed the batteries (maybe they're dead).
Any suggestions?

My HP41 will undoubtedly die one day also. I have begun to wean myself off with android emulators.?ÿ?ÿ
Some times the batteries take a couple of minutes to power up the cards in slot 1 and slot 2. I have had to put another set of new batteries in the HP48 because it took so much power to kickstart the cards.
If that is not the problem it could have froze up
Take the feet off and you will find two holes, I think they are on the bottom end
Use two paper clips and bend out and poke each into each hole at the same time?ÿ and also one at a time and at the same time press the on button and/or enter button and/or del button
Try this with and without the batteries in
This should reset the HP48

WOW!?ÿ I knew this board had all the wisdom in the world in all its members.
I knew about the hole under the upper right rubber pad, but not the other two.
It worked beautifully!
Thank you!

If resetting doesn't work for you in the future: try applying pressure between the screen and C/D key (where I've placed the casing on my 48), and try turning it on normally while applying said pressure. Long story short: there's a circuit there that tends to degrade, and sometimes you need to help the connection.

@steinhoff That was the third thing I tried. I had heard that trick before, but it's good to repeat in case others haven't.
You can also put the batteries in backwards and hit the on button. Nothing will visually happen.
Then flip the batteries back around and viola. It's a reset without having to pop the feet off.
I had my SMI card in my 48 for about 25 years without ever removing it. One day the calculator would not fire up.
I pulled the card and it worked fine. Put it back in and have had no issues since.
I use a hp11c emulator on my iPhone 6 which needed a new battery which SWMBO ordered, it came with the necessary tools. I successfully did it. The tiniest screws I have ever seen and delicate ribbons with little connectors.
